Good news for the Organic lovers in Dubai. At a new location i.e. Zabeel Park Gate 1 & on Fridays 9AM to 2 PM, the organic food market will reopen.
This was announced by RIPE which is one of the most popular organic fruit & vegelable company. Last year they attracted more that 10,000 visitors each week. They have large stock of courgettes, bell peppers, pumpkin, cucumbers, tomatoes, leafy greens like lettuce, rocket and herbs and some delicious fruits, too, like watermelon. They are grown in local farms without pesticides, weedkillers or fertilisers. Fare available from local vendors will include honey, cheese, nuts, spices, olive oil and beauty products.
About 150 vendors, including artisans, designers and musicians, will be present. In addition, visitors have their pick from live music and yoga workshops to a petting zoo and pony rides for children.
Similar food and crafts markets in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, also organised by Ripe, offer produce grown by local farmers.
There is a growing level of toxicity in people?s bodies nowadays. This is because we don?t eat so well and we?re getting toxic exposure from products we use on our hair and bodies and breathing in. Organic products helps to mitigate the effects of toxic materials on our bodies.
The seeds of the country's organic market were planted in 2006, when Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, pledged his support for such enterprises, referring to a phrase often used by Sheikh Zayed, the founding President of the UAE: Give me agriculture and I shall give you civilisation.
It is absurd that most people bought produce flown in from elsewhere at the expense of both taste and the environment. This weekend marks the end of the outdoor growing season in this country. Farmers will soon move to hydroponic agriculture for the summer.

I love the Oragnic markets of the UAE. Besides Sharjah & Dubai there are many places particularly in Union Coop Supermarkets there are plentiful subsidized organic vegies available.
Thanks for reporting Raunak.

@ Rahul - Organic products are eco-friendly & are healthier. They are a bit expensive, but I think every good thing has a price tag. Thanks for your comments.

Hi Raunak, thank you for sharing this report. I strongly agree with you that we are giving less importance to our health with how we eat and what we use for our body (shampoo, hair spray, etc.) so opening an organic food market would encourage us more to be health conscious. I hope it will be patronized by a lot of the residents. :)
