Sustainable environment through e-Books |
---|
Nowadays E-book reader has been an important and popular device for students and who have passion for reading. E-book giants Amazon, Barnes, Apple, Sony have been selling a lot of their version eBook reader and this trend continues to rise in the days to come. Apart from being portable and handy eBooks reader help a lot to maintain the sustainable environment as it saves a lot of trees, energy and prevents pollution which is produced during the manufacturing of papers and ink. According to research done by green press initiative and Book industry study group in 2008, 30 million trees were used by the book companies in U.S in the year 2006 and had carbon footprints equivalent to 12.4 metric tons of carbon dioxide, which is around 8.85 pounds per books sold.[1] So this shows that the use of eBook readers reduces the carbon footprints at a significant rate. Although the production of these gadgets produces carbon dioxide and other industrial gases, it surely decreases the overall production of the green house gases. Replacing the conventional books, with eBooks can sustain the environment to a greater extent. Keeping this thing mind, there is nowadays more e-library running. Even many newspapers and magazines like Newsweek have stopped the production of Hard copy of their magazine, and have converted themselves in the eMagazines and eNewspapers. So, I think it is wise to have eBook reader so that one can get access to millions of free books and many of them at low price, as eBook are cheaper compared to the printed version. Making these gadgets accessible to all the readers and students, can surely change the environmental condition of today, and have a sustainable environment. So, it is high time for youth and readers like us to have one eBook reader each so that we can save environment, money and get access to millions of book at a same time. |

definitely ebooks are helpful for 'save trees' call. I like studying them. even the course work is available in this form in my university but it is really difficult to read those for a long time because that puts a lot of stress to my eyes. personally I like reading from paper than screen specially if it's for some academic purpose but still I prefer soft study material instead of hard just to save environment. We still have a long way to go

Nice input Sabin. The boom of E-book contributed saving trees! I am also a big fan of E-book. Personally, I downloaded E-book app to my smartphone and read books during commuting. So my purse got much lighter(without actual books haha)! I am trying to substitute all paper books with E-book but it's hard to totally give up the charm of paper book though :)

eBook is the future of reading rather, next level of reading. In my iPad I've loads of eBooks & this is sustainable & cheaper method.
Thanks for the report Sabin.

Indeed, Books once read are never used again only to be lost in some corner of house. The ebooks being eco friendly saves paper as well as reduces the carbon footprints.
I am a fan of ebooks and I have completed more 38 novels in my computer.
