World Food Day is always a very painful introspection day for me since I came across the various statistics defined by "World Hunger Index" etc as I have reported in this forum in 2012 and also in 2013...
This year I tried to spread the awareness of various aspects of food wastage and specially what we can do on our day to day life among our young and adult team members of "Green Brigade" - the environmental group formed by me and is at very close to my heart...
It was amazing to note some of our member's own 1st hand experiences of poverty, food shortage, malnutrition etc. One member (who is attached to various NGOs) has described level of our knowledge on food crisis/poverty at the ground level in India. She mentioned that one volunteer in her NGO was suggesting to have a spool filled with peanuts to be included in all the village children's daily meal to fight malnutrition!!! when those kids are not in a position to have a proper meal of rice and lentil in a day due to their economic condition.
At the end I have shown the famous (or shall I call it infamous ??) picture taken by Kevin Carter which won the Pulitzer prize (please have a look at the photo below). The photo shows a kid transformed into a near skeleton due to hunger/malnutrition can't even walk...he was crawling and a vulture was just behind him following him...just waiting for the kid's eventual and sure death in coming days!!!The photographer committed suicide after few months as he could not sustain the mental pressure after taking that photograph....
It was a nice gathering and many of the members participated with their various emotional experiences and at the end we took the pledge not to waste a single grain of food in our day to day life...

Food wastage is a big issue in UAE. We all must strive to eradicate this menace.
You have conducted a good event in this regard.
Well Done Unmesh.

Wow, haha you really made me lol in the last pic Unmesh :D Wow, you did a real good work with the World Food Day campaign. Recently I read an article about the effect of malnutrition on growing children. Children with malnutrition showed 20% less growth for a year. It was really shocking number and yea, it's observed in Korea, where I born and live. So, thoughtful eating and sharing food should be norm for all of us.

Great job Umesh.
It's no suprise, even in 21st century people are suffering from malnutrition.
One of the remedy I believe is the improved farming condition which can help to produce nutritious food and also proper post harvest culture.

Forming Green Brigade was an awsome idea. No one deserves to go through such an experience as starvation. Most countries still rely greatly on NGOs and their donations.
In Zimbabwe, Help the Children Feed the Nation(HCFN) is one local organisation that reverses the effects of food shortages among street kids. Such marginalised groups should learn to be self reliant e.g through Agriculture.
Wish you luck with your young group.

It is a really innovative way to show your support for the World Food Day. Roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year — approximately 1.3 billion tonnes — gets lost or wasted.
This can be prevented if take appropriate measures.
Thanks for sharing Unmesh!

What a campaign on World Food Day! Commendable, Unmesh. Issues like this need to be shared and awareness level needs to be increased so that each & every person thinks 2wice before wasting food while eating/cooking , before over-purchasing in grocery store , or before over-ordering in restaurant. Thanks for sharing . "Green Brigade " is your very good initiative and is doing good , Keep it up.
