Towards reducing Landfills - The Clean-Up Campaign

by | 01-12-2014 00:37 recommendations 0

Often we hear about so many reports pertaining to the negative impacts of our actions on the environment but little do we hear about the positive impacts of our actions responsible for the revitalization of the environment. We the students of The Millennium School, Dubai had participated in the Clean-Up Campaign organized by the Dubai Municipality in November 2014. Around 150 students from various age groups exuberantly volunteered to clean up the area around our school.

Today, landfills are becoming a major cause of concern among the community which if not looked upon, can become insidious for the present as well as the future population. This Clean-Up Campaign bring us a step closer to combat the increasing levels of landfills. From the neighboring area we picked up waste ranging from plastic bottles, aluminium cans, hazardous glass objects, polythene bags etc. which on an average take more than a 1000 years to decompose. If instead of producing more and more plastic, the existing plastic is recycled and reused then the amount of landfills can fall drastically.

Three officials from the Dubai Municipality guided us through the event and supported us in the endeavor. They also appreciated our efforts of helping to create sustainability and were amazed to see so many pupils of the young generation working together with unity for the betterment of the community. As I am the Secretary of the Environment Club, it was my duty to create change by being the change.

This event gave us the opportunity to cognize an environment which is clean, green, safe and sustainable. I request all my fellow readers to involve in such activities to reduce landfills as an environment that is degraded by one person needs ten persons to replenish it so that the rate of creating a sustainable environment is accrued.

Well Done Mohit. I hope the person who has littered reads this or looks at this pic & vows not to litter & dispose wisely.
As such UAE is very clean but still we need such awareness & clean - up campaigns in order to sustain the cleanliness.

Clean up is very effective way to reduce negative environmental consequences. Well done Mohit.
You are right regarding the poor coverage of the positive action done to revive the environment. Hope main stream line media as well start focusing on events like you and most of eco-generation member has been doing recently and generate positive spark.
