Polar bears at French zoos |

Many French tourists are opting for a luxury way to spend a night with a polar bear-in a hotel! In a bid to boost the number of visitors, La Fleche zoo in France decided to open its first lodge in 2013. The Arctic lodges have log fires for observing polar bears where visitors can observe polar bears Taiko and another polar bear Katinka who swim underwater and can be observed from a massive window connected to a parental suite. Six lodges are due to open by 2016 before ?a big African Savannah project ?that will include a hotel complex for business customers. This method of attracting visitors is similar to other zoos in France like Sainte-Croix where visitors must wait almost one and a half years to make a reservation at its most expensive lodge near the wolf enclosure or in other parts of the world like Canberra, Australia which has an African-themed resort. This seems to be an idea that will serve to profit zoos for several years because accommodation is fully booked. The idea of attracting tourists to zoos by constructing lodges and resorts will only serve to continue these animals? lives in captivity. What must be encouraged instead is for the public to visit wild life reserves where these animals thrive with flora in their natural habitats, and not in captivity while humans watch them in a lodge. |

Thank you for sharing, Neha. As soon as I read the story, I couldn't believe that it was real happening thing. Isn't it disgust to capture polar bears in hotel merely to attract more visitors?
I would not feel happy visiting such an awful hotel :-(

Raising awareness on protecting polar bears can be good effect of this hotel but I agree with Bindu's idea. I feel doubt about captivating polar bear and raising them nearby the residential areas of human beings. The bears should be back to where they belonged. :(

I fully agree with you Aasha & all other wise Ambassadors who have kindly commented on the post.
Animals have all the rights to live in natural habitat. While such resorts are making money a portion of that may be allocated for animal welfare.

It does sounds fascinating. But instead of captivating we should encourage people to visit wildlife reserves or natural park where animals enjoy the most. Every animal must be allowed to roam freely in their own natural habitat and enjoy the wilderness.

French Zoo offering sleepovers with POLAR BEARS... with just a window to separate tourists from enclosure—Oh how exciting! This sure must be getting them increased income. Some part of this income should be used to provide comfort and convenience to the wild animals .They should be properly taken care. Having said that , no doubt that best would be to let these wild animals live in their natural habitat.

It sounds interesting and lucrative but the hotels also should guarantee the stress free and familiar environment to those polar bears Polar bear shouldn't suffer just for the sake of luxury to we humans and yes government should find alternative ideas for its conservation we must not forget wild flora and fauna are equally essential :)

Polar bears at French zoo can be a source of attraction for people attached to luxury and fond of wild-lives. It will on one hand enhance the revenue of the zoo and can enhance economy but as you said regarding the animals right I find it better letting wild to be wild. They should be encouraged to grow and survive in their natural habitat. Government should focus on sustainability and national parks, wildlife reserves can be a good alternative :)
