My Electric Bicycle

by | 07-02-2015 18:36 recommendations 0

When I visited Abu Dhabi Sustainability week I wanted to update myself on latest eco-friendly initiatives introduced the world over. I had no idea that my visit will end in me winning an electric bike.

I visited many stalls in the exhibition beginning with Emirates Environmental Group where we are members since many years & also the regular contributors. Then we focused on Beeah stall. This is Sharjah based environmental management company which in Here for the Future [this is their new logo]. We also went to Tadweer the Center of waste management in Abu Dhabi.

All these & many other entities are undertaking massive campaigns to make the UAE cleaner, Greener & sustainable. Ambassador Rohan Kapur has also organised a similar event Called Recycle-Thon 15 to be concluded immediately upon his return from Korea. Many UAE members & Ambassadors are taking part & I urge all others & readers as well to take another sound step towards sustainability & save landfills for a week by collecting recyclables.

In the exhibition, particularly Eco-Waste section was designed to cover solid awste management services & solutions required to contain the increase of waste production & looking at modern methods of Reusing, Reducing & Recycling while maintaining a sustainable environment.

Beeah has organized a social media awareness event where the participants are required to take a picture at the Beeah stall in the exhibition & upload the same at their social media accounts.  I took aprt in the competition & luckily I won an electric bicycle Polaris – Strive.

I was happy not only by winning the bike but also due to the fact that this vehicle does not use fossil fuel & is a sustainable means of transport. It has a rear mounted Geared hub with a 450 watt Lithium Battery. It can travel upto 40 Kilometers on a single charge & is a good urban vehicle.

I wish to spread awareness about sustainable means of transport & my new Polaris – Strive electric bicycle is an excellent example of the same.

Thanks for reading.

Wow! The pictures remind me of my visit to to the summit exhibition in 2013 and 2014. The World Future Energy Summit Exhibition has grown tremendously in the past few years. It is an efficient approach to sustainability as it focuses on amalgamation and collaboration of ideas from not only like-minded leaders and policymakers of the international community but also from local NGOs which work towards the same. This is exactly what the UAE Green Development Strategy'15 wishes to make the cornerstone to sustainable development. I also admire their concept of addressing the the three pillars of resource conservation and sustainability-Eco-WASTE, International WATER Summit and World Future ENERGY Summit.
Thanks for sharing the different kinds of eco-technologies and your experience, Raunak:)
