Weather forecasting is the methods procedure and principle of predicting atmospheric situation in short and long range for the better farm operation and planning of agriculture activities. Government of Nepal started hydrological and meteorological activities in an organized way in 1962. The activities were initiated as a section under the Department of Electricity. The section was subsequently transferred to the Department of Irrigation and was ultimately upgraded to Department status in 1988. In present context, there are 13 local weather forecasting stations and they forecast the description of weather on the basis of data received from the USA and Russian satellites. In Nepal there are 337 precipitations stations,154 hydrometric stations,20 sediment stations,68 climatic stations,22 agrometeorological stations,9 synoptic stations and 6 aero-synoptic stations. The datas  are  communicated to the public or to the farmers through different media like press, radio, television, etc. In many rural area there is no availability of radio stations ,televisions and other communication media due to which people are lagging behind from getting weather report. So they are forced to predict the weather from traditional method. In Nepal with regarding to present scenario many weather stations are established in the terai region, stations are not established on tha basis of agroecological zones .Some weather stations are functional less due to lack of  management from the side of government. So,government should have to take an appropriate steps to mitigate tis kind of problems. Increase in number of  weather stations on the basis of agroecological zone, regular management of stations can be done to overcome the problems related to weather forecasting. Government should increase the budget level for the sector of weather forecasting to help and inspire the farmers. There is need of guideline to the farmers from the weather forecasting scientist in short range and long range to minimise the risk.Due to the lack of information of weather farmers are unknown about plant protection measures. In  a nutshell, weather forecasting scenario of Nepal is progressive but concerned agencies need to take strong initiatives to further develop this sector.

You made a great point, Sunil. I learned that the main source of income in Nepal is agriculture industry. So, well reported weather = well prepared agricultural production. The improvement suggested by you must be done by the government of Nepal. Thank you for sharing your thoughtful opinion and useful info.

Hi Sabin, its nice reading what it is like in Nepal. I don't think its enough writing what you think the government should do. get involved, send them letters and notes suggesting this things. am sure they'll thank you later.

On a friendly note, double check for typos next time before posting, typos knows how to take the flare off a good writing :)
