Electric Cars & charging stations in Dubai

by | 05-03-2015 21:36 recommendations 0

Using fossil fuels for cars is definitely harmful to the environment. There are options available like CNG & Electric cars. These are popular in regions where the petrol / diesel fuel is relatevely expensive but in Gulf countries where fuel is cheaper than water nobody will think of CNG & Electric cars.

But due to its undeterred commitment towards sustainability & lowering carbon emissions Dubai launched CNG & Electric cars. They started with governmnet bodies. Sharjah is using CNG vehicles for its Electricity & water office vehicles. They have CNG filling facilities in some petrol stations but for electric cars the charging stations were not there.

Recently Dubai has introduced 16 charging stations throughout the counntry for Electric cars. As such, they can be charged at home overnight but local charging stations are required for practical purposes. So far, they are near to government buildings, but gradually authorities plan yo introduce more of these stations.

Electric cars are cheaper to maintain as there is no maintenance required, only replacement of tyres. And the biggest advantage is their sustainability, no-carbon emission & pollution free.

The meathod of charging the cars is explaned below:

  • Place Dewa card on scanner

  • Plug one end of the charging cable to your vehicle and other end of the cable to the charging station

  • To stop, place card on scanner, unplug cable from charging station and from vehicle

  • Charges will be as per normal tariff of 29.5fils per kilowatt

  • Driving 100km will cost roughly Dh3, but can vary per car

  • Time taken to charge can take between 2-4 hours or 6-8 hours

  • Fast charging stations to be added at petrol stations to take 30 minutes

I feel elated once again & congratulate the authorities who have taken these eco-friendly measures.

Thanks for reading

I agree these costs are heavy initially but they are recovered over a period of time & provide greater benefits in the long run.

Dubai! Dubai!!! why am I not surprised, and I also concur Shafira's comment, if we are using renewable energy to produce electricity then we would have eco-lifestyles!!!! I believe in innovation bringing to my country what it doesn't have, so Shafira you could consider doing something like, do some idea proposal am sure there is always some people behind an organisation willing to fund green projects :)

It's really a great move to promote electric cars . Charging thru these charging stations is so simple...this will surely encourage people to think of going for electric cars. Dubai is even putting on road electric powered bus as trial for 9 months.
Thanks for sharing the new , Raunak.

    OMG I love this initiative!
Especially if we're using renewable energy to produce electricity. This would be 100% Green Living!
I wish Seychelles could take up this project. But it cost so much!! We are still using fossil fuel to produce our own electricity! :(

I am happy for your country! Well done
