The Carbon Ambassadors make sustainable bus stops from recycled 20 ft shipping containers.

A group of UAE students are building eco-friendly bus stops that will be installed in parts of Dubai as part of new Green programme.

The eco warriors are part of a youth group entitled Carbon Ambassadors , which is an environmental initiative by the Dubai Carbon Centre of  Excellence.

One of the students presented her group?s efforts so far to UN chief Ban Ki Moon when he was in Dubai last month for Govt Summit. Ban Ki Moon was very impressed by the Carbon Ambassador?s project so far. Her team used spare containers from DP World to build eco friendly bus stops. They are in the building process right now and will be using solar panels  to provide electricity inside the bus stops. They are putting phone charging stations which will be powered by bicycles inside the bus stops. People can pedal the bikes to power their phones.

The solar panels will also power the air conditioner inside the bus stop and the seats will be made out of tyres.

The Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence –also known as Dubai Carbon – is a joint project by the  UNDP and the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy. The group seeks to reduce the region?s carbon footprint  by developing a low carbon economy in the UAE.

They provide corporate training workshops on sustainability and youth training programmes , where they teach people how to build business development models by using more environmentally friendly methods.

These UAE university students enrolled under the Carbon Ambassador Programme (CAP) have taken a colossal leap towards successfully transforming used containers into bus stops.

The Carbon Ambassadors have finalized their 'Bill of Quantities' along with the design drawings for the implementation of their Turnkey Project. Today, the students have successfully completed module 1 of the Sustainability Programme. They are now qualified to start training and activities for the next module: Carbon Emission Reductions.

The students will review this ambitious project with representatives from DEWA, DP World, and Dubai Carbon. This will help students to evaluate the direction, concept, project plan, and milestone goals to complete the project. The students will also be learning essential concepts such as energy balance, project timeline management, and budgeting.

The Carbon Ambassadors Programme is an excellent tool to educate the young generation, and encourage them to take part in public awareness efforts and come up with new initiatives that enrich both the present and future. The programme also combines a broad public awareness campaign and training programmes that enable young people to consciously interact with personal, local and global perspectives. Around 40 Carbon Ambassadors participate in the programme for one year. They are trained in sustainability, carbon emission reductions, and climate change mitigation.

Dubai Carbon has been helping in developing future leaders and believes that It is imperative that our youth adopt a green frame of mind. This project is not about making bus stops from reused shipping containers, it is about engaging with young people and helping them to inspire others with their passion and inspiration. These are the first steps for inspiring future generations.

The bus stops will be created out of used 20ft shipping containers supplied by DP World . These structures would be completely functional and self-sustaining. Thus, putting to good use, and, making the best of waste.

We all want the planet to continually sustain and support the human race. That would require a change in our attitude, a combination of rational enlightenment and moral awakening. Carbon emissions are a global conundrum, prevalent in the UAE too. The Carbon Ambassadors Programme of Dubai Carbon takes exceptional strides to mitigate the hazard in Dubai and Dubai Plan 2021 is a great opportunity to establish a greener economy for sustainable development. We need to support the project more than ever before as we advocate a change, along with the Carbon Ambassadors, to reduce carbon emissions for a greener and greater Dubai.

Properly speaking solar panel is the most suitable renewable energy in Middle East. This kind of project is great and unique. I believe that people in Dubai will give their support to this one.
