THE YOUNGEST OLYMPIC TORCH BEARER FROM THE REGION -UAE AND GULF SIMRAN VEDVYAS CARRIED THE OLYMPIC TORCH ON 18TH JUNE 2012- IN NORTH YORKSHIRE , UNITED KINGDOM Thousands of residents of North Yorkshire United Kingdom, including young and old, toddlers and elders lined on both sides of the streets to cheer up the torch bearer as passing the streets. The special convoys and caravans with security managed the show so well. The enthusiasm to cheer the torch bearer was something to watch out for. I was one of the only six chosen from UAE, and I was the only Indian Girl from the region. Nominated and sponsored by Samsung Gulf Electronics as social campaigner and a -star- student of the school, I aspire to represent Peace, Unity and Friendship. I was treated so nicely by all the other fellow torch bearers who had a great inspiring story of their own. I was also invited to give speech as the youngest torch bearer in reply to the toast by the President of Samsung during the special dinner reception arranged by the host at the spectacular HOWARD CASTLE. This was one of the instances when I realized that WE the people can make a difference to simplify the lives of others. I?d say I chose Diabetes because Diabetes is a Global Problem with devastating human, social and economic impact. Today more than 300 million people worldwide are living with diabetes. Each year another 7 million people develop diabetes. One out of every four citizens of the United Arab Emirates has Diabetes. With the second-highest diabetes rate in the world, treatment gobbles up an estimated 40 percent of the national health care budget. I chose to stand by the side of those we are suffering with Diabetes and over all the moral and support according to my limited means which were represented by sharing some of my own shoes, collecting from the community and buying some pairs of new shoes.

@ Shibajyoti, The next Olympic Games would be after 4 years, and this opprtunity came to me due to my nomination and selection by Official Sponsor for the Olympic Games Samsung and LOGOC who chose about 8000 insporational people who are carrying the torch this summer. I was chosen due to my exceptional and commendable social work for the last 5 years help to the community and at the same time being star student. There were several rounds of screening and cross checks conducted by LOGOC (London olympic Games Organizing Committee) so I say it was destiny and God's Gift to me for my work which I still cannot believe happened to me. It is one of the BEST moments of my life. I am not sure what will happen in future as for this time the torch is made having holes and there are 8000 holes indicating and dedicated to the 8000 inspirational people. Many famous stars and sports personalities are carrying the torch and it is aimed to reach 95% of the population of UK and people in UK in every town are following this with excitement. The streets have hoardings and kiosks and SAMSUNG presence very well felt.
