This year. Algeria officially celebrated "Earth Hour for the first time with SIDRA Association.
On the occasion of the international event EARTH HOUR, the sidra organized an environmental conference , the theme "Eco-citizenship and sustainable development", 03.26.2015 at 13:00 in the cultural center Lakhdar Rabbah ,Belouizdad ,Algiers.
I was an online coordinator and and I was one of the awareness campaign members about the threat of global warming in my town :D
The Algerian citizens turned off your lights and unplug their non-essential electrical appliances Saturday, March 28 from 20:30 to 9:30 p.m. to promote electricity conservation and fight against global warming.
The event got a great successful organization by The state authorities ,associations ,local organizations and volunteers in Algiers the capital town of Algeria . They celebrated the event by switching off the light of the monument of Algiers "Makam Shahid"for an hour to fight against climate change.

It's great to know about algeria's efforts to celebrate Earth Hour 2015. A Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step which is often the biggest step! The best part about the initiative seems to be the 100% involvement and participation of numerous youths and children of the country judging by the pictures:) Thanks for the report Sara!

WOW, thanks for sharing the very first celebration of Earth Hour in Algeria!!! :D Earth Hour is becoming global festival for the awareness of the environment. Good movement!
If there's any chance, please introduce us what other campaigns SIDRA Association is doing. Is it an environmental group? I'm wondering. Thanks again for sharing!!!

Well begun is half done, Sara. I'm sure Algeria will take big strides in Eco-Conservation.
This is an excellent & welcome move by the authorities. Let's go beyond symbolic 60 minutes of Earth hour & conserve electricity as a day-to-day feature.
Keep it up & Congratulations!
