Green Conference Concept |

Dear Ambassadors,
In this report I will share with you a new concept I have read about it two years ago in BIMUN/SINUB conference. I couldn't make it to the conference but I really do like their idea which was such a success and received so much positive response and I think it deserve to be shared with you in case we can work on it and transfer this concept into our practical work.
The concept expressed by BIMUN as the first Green MUN conference worldwide in the Germany UN-City of Bonn is " Green Conference " in which they started using and applying this concept in 2009 to raise the issue of sustainability.
The conference as large as BIMUN with more than 200 participants from all over the world has high CO2 emissions and an undeniable impact on the environment due to flights, electricity, waste and the use of many different materials. the Green Conference aims to minimize and compensate this impact by doing these steps :
v Using an CO2-neutral internet-server. v Being sustainable, in every way they can. v Using recycled or environmentally-friendly materials out of sustainable sources. v Compensating the whole conference´s CO2-emission. v Using separate bins for different kinds of waste. v Using environmentally-friendly of electricity and heat.
In addition to that they asked all participants to take a commitment when they get back to Avoid pollution, reduce your carbon foot print to save nature and contribute to a greener world!
in gernal they asked for such commitments : v Use your bike or public transport, no taxis. v Consume more regional products. v Buy products out of sustainable sources. v Reduce flying or compensate it. v Compensate your own CO2-emission. v Avoid unneeded printing.
This is not a conference about environment or sustainblity development, but a concept applied to a conference about different issues, therefore I really like the concept and I wish we can find it also in all conferences, trainings and activities that we are doing in our countries.
For me I will do transfer this concept to my work and my NGO in Yemen and do my best to apply what I can from the above ways and steps expliend in this Green Conference.

Excellent concept for sure Sadam. This is very practical to ACT green while THINKING green in a conference.

Thank you for introducing a wonderful concept which can be applied on every conference. I loved the concept and the best thing with this concept is that the participants can raise their awareness on the environment by 'actually' doing it in the conference. People can learn from listening and reading but much more from by doing the things :)

Wow! Green Conference concept is really amazing and practical. I really appreciate that conference like BIMUN made participants to commit in reducing pollution, carbon foot print to save nature and contribute to a greener world.

The concept of 'green conference' is intriguing indeed! The commitments, I am certain, are objectives of many environmentalists around the globe and something that they wish to integrate in everyone's lives. They are noteworthy points. Thanks for the informative report Sadam!

The concept is of course worth praise & it should be adopted everywhere. This will definitely increase the practical implementation of sustainability.

Sadam you hit the nail with your this report. I had always wondered that these high fi , large scale summits , conferences and meetings of delegations from all across the globe to discuss and make action plan about mitigating climate change , themselves ironically spend so much on travel , distributing flyers etc thereby increasing the carbon footprint. Green conference is the key. I loved reading your report and the issue you took .Thanks , Sadam.
