Nearly after two months of my hectic exams finally I am freed now. I remember even while preparing for my exams several ideas used to pop up my mind and I was just wishing my exam gets over soon. Finally the time has come to be at my responsibilities as Eco- generation Ambassador. So, how could I make it late for my action? Finally without any delay yesterday I conduct my very first event (though I have coincidentally got chance to promote Tunza Eco- generation before also).
In our country Nepal, children rarely have access to internet service. There is a general assumption like use of mobile phone will hamper the studies so until and unless children pass Grade 10, they rarely can use laptops, mobiles and internet service. May be why I find children concentrated only in academics. So, as an ambassador my first responsibility would surely be to help children in my society to learn with fun using technology. So I have named my first event as Nurturing Young Minds with Green Energy.
2015/04/24 at 4pm (GMT +5.45) I visited every children's house (as they have returned back to home from school at that time) and invited them my home. I informed that today we are having gathering to know each other and have fun. I bought some chocolates pencils and copies to distribute them. At around 5pm twelve children of my area came to my home with excitement of the invitation. Kids were of age 6- 11 years. We all sat in the ground and the event proceeded as follows-
First of all to make them comfortable with each other there was icebreaking. I initiated first by saying Namastey (Greetings in Nepali) and then my name. Similarly they all said their so happily and loudly.
Afterwards I introduced the term Environment, pollution, degradable and non degradable waste. Then after I told them that I will show them a movie and after watching we will have a quiz session so that one who can answer will get chocolates and pencils. I showed them two animated videos, one was related with 3R and another with energy saving. They all crowded in front of screen of my laptop and watched so enthusiastically because they rarely get chance like this.
Then after, I asked them to tell one lesson each they learned from the video. They raised their hand hurried to answer. Some of them said we should not light our house when it is not necessary, some said we should not litter our water sources, some said we should not cut trees for money etc. I gave chocolates after they answered.
Next was a drawing competition I asked them to draw anything that comes to their mind when we say Environment. In fifteen minutes they draw many items river, sun, flower, butterfly, crops, trees, mountains etc. They voted three best drawing and I gave those pencils and chocolate as prize.
Lastly, to conclude there was a sharing about what they learnt. Even 6 years old kid said that she will close her tap after using. At last they promised that they will not litter their surrounding and save energy in their house and classroom as well.
While saying bye bye, they asked me when they will get next chance to have fun and learn like this. I replied very soon. In this way, my first event was accomplished with so much fun with lovely kids. Their smile and queries clearly reflected their interest and excitement. What I did may not be huge but what I did was with all my heart and for surely it has impact in those young minds.
