To create awareness about Plants and the diseases of plants and crops, also to prevent these diseases and protect plants from insects and to secure maximum yielding, a new type of clinic/ hospital is launched in Bangladesh. It is expected that this new clinic, named Plant Doctor Clinic will provide solutions for problems regarding plants and crops, all one has to do, is to bring the sample of the troubled plant. For the first time, this type of clinic is launched in Bangladesh, away from the capital city, Dhaka, in a place named Tangail. The Thana Nirbahi Officer of Agriculture of Tangail, Mohammad Anwar Hossain Khan says, "The primary concern of this clinic is to provide natural and organic fertilizers, insecticides instead of chemical and synthetic ones. Most of the farmers lack technological and institutional knowledge. For which, they apply chemical fertilizers and insecticides as they are cheap in price. But they are not concerned about the environment pollution caused by these kind of substances. Moreover, these substances make the crops unhygenic as well, also harming the natural reproduction system. So this clinic has a major duty to replace these substances with natural and organic ones to keep our nature safe." Mr. Khan also adds that two pilot clinic is founded in this area, and after successfull completion of pilot project, they have plans to found more. The clinic is established by the financial aid of Commonwealth. There are clinics of this type in 8 other countries. Information courtesy: BBC Bangla, UKaid and Govt. of UK websites.

Its an amazing news Tapashi. This initiative is highly appreciable. Hope for it's success. These days increase in the use of synthetic and chemical fertilizers, insecticides, pesticides have deteriorated the food quality as well as fertility of the land. On such condition plant clinics like this shall be very beneficial. Thanks for sharing. ☺

Thanks for the interesting report . I never knew that there is something called "Plant Doctor Clinic" till I read this report.
Plants with pest and disease problems are a major source of concern for farmers around the world ( more in developing countries). For farmers a healthy crop can mean the difference between a plentiful food supply and the possibility of going without it. Farmers will often turn to their peers or seek advice from pesticide dealers on managing their crop problems. The help they find here can be useful, but if it is in-accurate they run the risk of losing their crops and potentially jeopardizing their livelihood. In such cases, Plant doctor clinics are extremely useful in diagnosing and treating the ill-health of plants and hence reducing the losses and increasing the productivity.

Dear Tapashi I am very glad to know about First Plant Doctor Clinic in Bangladesh. Agriculture is a major source of income for millions of families around the world. Like you mentioned, people lack technical and institutional knowledge so prefer chemical fertilizers/pesticides instead of organic. I hope this Clinic can provide reliable service to people and contribute indirectly to environmental conservation too.
Thank you for sharing :)
