Due to population influx, limited spaces are available for individual needs. Architecture is constantly shifting towards high rise skyscrapers, providing no possibility or opportunity for gardening.
Balcony Botany is a fast spreading phenomenon providing a sanctuary for nature lovers. Even those with little interest towards plants have taken up this pastime due to its wide range of benefits.
Even this requires some research before heading into action. The variety of plants in your balcony is directly influenced by the amount of sunlight reaching it. This will also affect how much watering you do.
Marcus Tullius Cicero quoted, << If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need. >>
Generally such small scale gardens require 30 minutes of watering a day if you are trying to grow organically, without pesticides. Some innovative methods include spraying leaf by leaf with chilli-infused water to kill pests.
The Dubai Municipality, to inculcate the act of urban farming, launched a campaign called < Grow Your Food > , which offered prizes for the best gardens.
Different families contested for the title each nurturing up to 90 plants in limited space using innovative methods.
You can also make your garden a bit more eco-friendly by using plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, teapots etc. instead of buying ready made pots.
Kitchen farming is being identified the world over as a way to overcome several health issues of families. Balcony botany provides various plant products that are completely organic at your doorstep helping counter various health issues.
Here are some tips you can follow while making your own balcony garden:
Plants on sunny balconies need to be watered daily
Periodically rotate the pots to allow them to get maximum sun exposure.
Put dishes or plates under the pots.
And Happy Gardening!

I had read this in Gulf News too and was appreciative of Dubai Municipality's efforts to encourage home grown food / in house gardening.

Balcony botany is common in urban region where space is very limited. Is that picture of your garden? I love your picture. For people living in city, this small garden in balcon help them enjoy green at least for their own in their room.

Exactly Humaid, Balcony botany is widespread mainly in urban areas these days due to its multiple advantage. I liked the quote Marcus Tullius Cicero quoted, "If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need."
Keep sharing :)
