On 26th April, 2015 just two days after the massive earthquake and continuous aftershocks hitting my country Nepal, I got a call in the afternoon from Mr. Birendra Poudel, founder of Nepal Friendship Society Chitwan. He informed that the event we had planned jointly for school students will be the next day. For a moment I was surprised to hear because whole country was morning due to the devastating loss caused by earthquake and every school were closed for uncertain time period. In response to my query he informed that he talked both to the school and students and they were ready for the event. I really felt proud to see the courage of eager students who didn't fear of the possible aftershocks.
So, early morning in the 27th April, We headed towards our venue Mohana Higher Secondary School, Ratnanagar Chitwan Nepal. I was so glad to see the crowd of curious students from three different government schools of grade 9 and 10 waiting for us in a classroom, who greeted us in such a loving manner. The program lasted for 3 hours from 7 am to 10 am in which I shared information about "Climate change as a global concern" and Mr. Poudel took a short session about concept of sustainable Development.
First of all, I gave my introduction as Regional Ambassador of Tunza Eco- generation and my roles and responsibilities (students were curiously looking at my eco- Tshirt). Then I started with the differene between weather and climate followed by concept and evidences of climate change. I then gave an overview of Conference of Parties (COP) and the parties involved in the UNFCCC negotiation process, their commitments in reducing green house gases emission. I highlighted the achievement from COP till now and expectations from upcoming COP 21 of Paris, France. I debriefed Nepal's status in the emission and its vulnerability towards climate change effects, the steps taken so far to mitigate and adapt towards anthropogenic ( human induced) climate change.
After the session we had group photograph and students promised to organize plantation in their school periphery as soon as rainy season starts (As through the session they came to know trees are the most efficient medium for carbon sink and help reduce the free carbon dioxide in atmosphere ). During the session students never let me feel that they were in shock from the recent earthquake. The classroom in which session was conducted was a single storey building and the door was open as a safety precaution. The event was successful not only to disseminate information about climate change but also to develop strong psychological state to resist the fear of earthquake. Fortunately, we felt no any aftershocks during the session though there was many afterwards.
In this way amidst a chaotic condition resulted from earthquake, Tunza Eco- generation and Nepal Friendship Society jointly organized the event supported by Ministry of Youth and Sports, Chitwan District Chapter.
(Sorry! for late post as I was busy extending helping hands for earthquake victims and I haven't received banner of Tunza Eco- generation till then so I couldn't use it during group photograph)

I gathered courage due to all those eager children, looking at them I never felt how terrible the ongoing circumstances were. These students were cheerful and curious to learn. They shared me how happy they were to have the session because they rarely get chance to have such event in their school.
I will take care of myself too sister :) Miss you :(
