As a build up to the World Environment Day , our youth community group "Students for the Earth" which is also a member of "Earth Charter International Youth Groups" , lined up few online and outdoor activities .

As President of the group , I would like to share them with you .

Outdoor Events

1. Interactive ENVIRONMENTAL workshop at Indian Association , Sharjah –involving motivation session by well known speakers on "Environment , it's needs and values" , display of "Best from waste" and a useful workshop demonstrating recycling.

2. To promote Reuse and Recycling we  organized an event "Old Books , New Life" –people can donate old story books ,reference books , magazines etc rather than throwing them and adding to landfill. All  collected books decided to be given to 'Dubai Public Library' to be used /read by interested readers including those who can't afford books to read. 900 books were collected .

Online events

1. World Environment Day (Online)contest-Participant had to capture a photo that depicts an environmental impact(either positive or negative) and record his thoughts about it . He had to also give his opinion as to how to improve the situation or how he admires the positive impact on environment. Entries were judged based on creativity in picture , writing and suggestion/opinion. Three winners were chosen each from "The Most liked /popular Entry" category and "The Most Creative Entry" Category.

 2. Essay /Article Writing Competition on Biodiversity

3. Eco Art Competition-Participants to create artwork from waste/discarded/recycleable material . It could be decorative useful item , model , art piece , furniture anything but made out of recycleable stuff. Art work should be original. We were amazed to see the entries here and creativity of young minds in turning waste/no longer useful items to beautiful  and useful art pieces . Someone made model of the mosque using  empty Shoe cartons , Drug bottle covers,Drug measuring cups (Plastic), Paper Boxes, Straw, Coconut Shell, Plastic toys of different shape and size, Iron pipes made out of broom stick , Clay balls,  Cardboard  and used chart paper.  A young girl made ecofriendly candle stand using recyclable  Coke can bottom , Tissue holder cardboard, used CD, Pista shells and paint.

Someone wore a dress made out of recycled material and sent that picture as entry.

I am sharing few of the entries here.

4.  Shout outs of WED ideas : We also asked our members their idea/plan to celebrate WED. We then posted their ideas as Shout Outs .

We had registered our events in advance with UNEP WED 2015 site.
