Can we keep it clean? |
---|
There is not a single time when I go out and don't find heaps of garbage on the road. Wastes from every house is collected by the garbage man and thrown somewhere on the road. As the days pass by, the smell becomes unbearable but there is no other solution than to wait for the Municipality truck to come and pick all the garbage.
This is a very common and serious problem in India, especially in Bihar. This issue has been introduced several times to bring it in government's notice but it seems that it is going to take some time for the government to take steps. A city can never be clean if it has garbage covering half of it's roads. People have a bad habit of throwing wrappers and other things on the road, not caring about cleanliness. In many countries it is strictly prohibited and citizens are even fined for doing so. Not in India. When the garbage is taken to big fields for dumping them there, they are carried in open trucks and tractors. Often the waste materials fall off the vehicles on the road. In rainy season, the condition becomes even more pathetic and breathing is hard in and around the garbage heaps. It is a more serious and bigger issue than it seems. |

Dear Yagya, the situation is more or less even in Nepal especially the Kathmandu, capital city of Nepal. Major portion of the garbage is plastic and each day the problem is elevating. Government's effort are non- effective unless public stakeholders take their responsibility. I am hopeful our generation can walk hands in hands towards a cleaner, healthier surrounding :)

Yagya it is same here in Kathmandu too. Waste management has been a major problem the cities of South Asia, all of have the same problem, poor management and ignorance by the public. It is definitely a serious problem and I think we can help solve this problem by awaring the people, which I have been doing and of course we can pressurize the policy makers too.

Well said, yagya. Hmm, it's issue for everywhere but levels differ. The awareness on the waste management issue should go up in that area and the execution of the regulations on Waste management should be strengthened. It's a combination of works engaging awareness raising and strengthening the system. :)

Indeed, that a big issue and a huge challenge. However, we should keep going. I believe that education is the key to solve the problem. We need to work on that. Thanks for sharing Yagya!!! Keep it up! =)

It is really a very pathetic state of Indian road conditions due to garbage disposal. I was hearing in news as well how it's becoming worse in rains these days. Really residents need to understand the harmful consequences of their ir-responsible garbage disposal . Even the municipalities need to do their job efficiently and properly. Thanks for sharing , Yagya.
