Not only UAE , but other countries of Gulf also are taking important steps in encouraging and promoting the use of renewable energy resources . On 1st June 2015 , Oman's Authority for Electricity Regulation (AER) has issued a license to Bahwan Astonfield Solar Energy Company for a solar power plant, with an annual capacity of 303-kilowatt located in Al Mazyounnah area of Dhofar Governorate. The power from solar project will be sold to the Rural Areas Electricity Company (Raeco) as per the agreement signed between the two companies.
The license, is valid for two years and the pilot project is the first of its kind in Oman. The plant is an important step in promoting the use of renewable energy resources in the Sultanate of Oman. The plant will help in assessing the feasibility of commercial use of such technology, as well as the challenges that may be faced if more similar projects with higher capacities are implemented.
