GOING VEGAN AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Did you know that you can fight climate change by going vegan? Yes indeed you can. Climate change is one of the greatest threats our earth is facing today.  Around the globe, seasons are shifting, temperatures are climbing and sea levels are rising. Climate change will rapidly alter the lands and waters we all depend upon for survival, leaving our children and grandchildren with a very different world. Scientists have high confidence that global temperatures will continue to rise for decades to come, largely due to greenhouse gasses produced by human activities. So it is important that we do our bit to reduce climate change. One solution to this problem is – going vegan

A vegan diet is one that consists of only plant-derived foods. Some popular vegan dishes include vegetable stir fry, pasta, rice and beans, chana masala, quinoa, vegan pizza, pancakes, french toast, waffles, veggie burgers, chili, soups, tacos, , sandwiches, cookies, non-dairy ice-cream, cakes, pies, etc. Animal products cause more damage than [producing] construction minerals such as sand or cement, plastics or metals. Biomass and crops for animals are as damaging as [burning] fossil fuels.

Agriculture, particularly meat and dairy products, accounts for 70% of global freshwater consumption, 38% of the total land use and 19% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions

Climate change is largely caused by carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide emissions, in addition to water vapor, and raising animals for food is one of the most significant sources of these emissions. The billions of chickensturkeys and cows. produce enormous amounts of methane, both during digestion and later. Nitrous oxide is about 300 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas. Nitrous oxide is released into the atmosphere in significant amounts when manure and urine from farmed animals break down. Even fertilizers can give out this gas.

Going vegan is the best solution to tackle this issue. Don?t you think you can help reduce climate change by reducing the consumption of non-veg food?

Wow, hi Afra, it's good to see you again here in this page. I enjoyed this article as I'm especially interested in dietary issues. I tried to cut down red meats and processed foods. So hmm I may be counted as a sort of ovo vegetarian. I feel my health is improving after changing my dietary habits.

@Afra :Yes , I fully agree with you that going vegan will help a lot in tackling global warming. I , my family , grandparents of both sides , all generations have been always vegan and I am proud of that. For those who are non veg like most of the people these days , it may be difficult to quit meat totally but they can help environment by cutting down on meat consumption , going from 2 days veg in a week etc .
@Luiz : Glad that you have reduced your meat intake.

I do believe that it can be a way to mitigate negative impacts to our planet. I am no vegan but Recently, I think that I am eating much less meat than before because of environmental worry.
