Beware mosquitos, dragonflies are in the air!

Mosquitos are regulars in Korea as the humid and hot air are the features of Korean Summer.
Our household is an open hunting ground for the mosquitos each year. The battle, the night agony...uh!
But this year, things have been slightly changing. We hardly come upon mosquitos. Lack of rain could be one contributing factor, and the other could be the increase of dragonflies population in the city of Seoul.
Dragonflies are the ancient insects, the earliest fossils are more than 300 million years old. These fossils show that prehistoric dragonflies had wingspans that were two and a half feet and up and weighed about one pound. These prehistoric dragonflies were carnivores, much like their descendants. They ate smaller insects and even small amphibians.
As the oxygen content of our atmosphere decreased, insect size followed the environment. Eventually, dragonflies could only grow to the size we know today. At their current size, the diet of the dragonfly is limited to much smaller prey-why mosquitoes are a favorite food.
Dragonfly nymphs(the stage of dragonfly that lives in the water) eat mosquito larvae, and grown up dragonfly, a treasure for humanity, because they keep mosquito population under control.
Still these days, once in a while, spray tank car, filled with mosquito pesticides, comes by neighborhood. Mosquitos will be eventually growing resistance to those chemical pesticides.
To study natural predator like dragonfly would be the way to keep harmful insects away.
