|BRAZIL| Biodiversity in Amazon and Responsibility

by Luiz Bispo | 26-07-2015 11:08 recommendations 0

By uploading many kinds of articles as ambassador of Tunza Eco Generation, I have kept insisting how important rainforest  is. It plays an important role in reducing CO2 as well as being home for variety of animals. A sizable Amazon land is the place where can confirm the biodiversity in the world. Today I would share the report from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

According to report, the researchers have found 1,200 new species such as 637 new plants, 357 fish, 216 amphibians, 55 reptiles, 39 mammals, and 16 new birds in the Amazon rainforest between 1999 and 2009. In other words one new species are discovered for every three days. In particular, new anaconda, river dolphin, an ancient ant, a big spider with blue fangs, and seven new monkeys are distinctive animals discovered over the past decade.

The UN conference held and brought the leaders from different countries to agree on saving Amazon forest, however, it seems not to be successful. However, 17% of the Amazon has been deforested since 1960, the countries in the world have made the persistent efforts in various ways. The governments from Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay pledged to achieve "net zero deforestation" in the Atlantic forest by 2020 at The World Forestry Congress in 2009. Furthermore, World Bank provides $13million to protect Brazil's Cerrado region.

The Cerrado is in central high plains area in Brazil, which is the most biologically rich region across world. However, unfortunately only less than 2% of this savanna is protected.

Industrial farming, mining, logging, oil development and dam expansion have destroyed the Amazon, which have threatened the biodiversity. The world's most surprising place is Amazon.. Our descendent would not enjoy our precious animals any more. I remind of my fiancé's comment after visiting the Zoo in Sao Paulo. This zoo is surrounded by forest to make the variety animals feel home.

She felt as if she was exposed to animal community there. For the first time in her life, she thought the earth is not only for human but for the place where all kinds of creatures co-exist together. As watching many animals there, she started to feel a shame about the acts committed by human beings these days. Human is just one of the various living things.

It is important to care earning money, success and travel.. in personal life but being aware of the world wide issues such as reckless development of nature, pollution and endangered species etc is more crucial. She, as Asian, has less opportunity to feel various animals and nature than I have.

She decided to do something meaningful works for world.

Do you know "Earth song"from Michael Jackson?

Since I was child, who love the nature, I used to enjoy listening this song all day.

This song is about exploitation of environment and animals, which has purpose to raise general awareness.  I think the song is the one of the most influential method to spread good will in the world. Today I want to share the part of lyrics of this beautiful song.

What have we done to the world
Look what we've done
What about all the peace
That you pledge your only son...
What about flowering fields
Is there a time
What about all the dreams
That you said was yours and mine...
Did you ever stop to notice
All the children dead from war
Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the weeping shores

                                                               -Michael Jackson-

(I will upload pictures of the couple of endangered species that I saw in the Zoo and new species found in Amazon area)

Endangered species:

 GOLDEN LION TAMARIN

This monkey has lion fur with gold color and lived in tropical rain forest in Southeastern Brazil. The population is estimated fewer than about only 200 in the world. They have been disappeared due to the region cleared for agriculture and ranching and poaching for medical research.

BLUE HYACINTH MACAW

This bird has a fresh and vivid blue color and lived in southern Brazil. The population of them is estimated to about 2,500. This bird has captured to be used as a pet and lost their habitats. The exploitation of bird has threatened their life.

New species: new anaconda, river dolphin, an ancient ant, a big spider with blue fangs, and seven new monkeys

Why do we humans do this....A forest -The Amazon which is a home to numerous kinds of flora and fauna ,is now degraded by our activities. It is absolutely true that if such things continue, surely our future generations would not even know that these species ever existed...There is a need for rapid action against destruction of forests due to human activities.

In most places in Zimbabwe, fire wood is still the primary source of heating and energy in most households... It has affected the eco system and lead to desertification in some areas... Its good that Miss Lee (or should I say Mrs 'Bispo') has joined you in this platforms and in your activities.
Lovely pics,,,, Luiz you are one of the most active envrio-leaders in this platform,,, Keep up!!!

Flying over the heart of the Amazon is like flying over an ocean of green: an expanse of trees broken only by rivers. Even more amazing than their size is the role the Amazon and other rainforests around the world play in our everyday lives.
In addition to the important and obvious role rainforests play in Earth??s climate(bringing rain , purifying air), they also are an important home to about half of the species of plants and wildlife on the planet. Many of the species found in rainforests are endangered and can only survive in rainforests.
There is no doubt that these ecosystems are critically important for our well-being.
They must be secured , preserved and protected.
Thanks for sharing a very inspiring and heart touching song of MJ.
Thanks for sharing your Zoo visit experience .

This is very interesting and a wake-up call to everyone to guide our wildlife jealously, here in Nigeria, activities of poachers is less controlled which has led to reduction of some of these animals in our rain forests. weldone Luiz!
