Poaching Crisis: Cecil The Lion |

For more than a decade, visitors to Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park would notice that one lion stood out from the rest—an enormous male with a long, shaggy black mane. The lion so endeared himself to tourists that he was given a name: Cecil.
I am sure you have already heard the story by now, but if you haven?t then here is a brief.
13 year-old Beloved Lion, Cecil, who once stayed at Hwange National Park, was recently killed, beheaded and skinned by a U.S dentist and trophy huntsman, Walter Palmer. This iconic Lion was on of Zimbabwe?s most popular and well known attractions, however, Palmer decided it would be good idea to fly to Zimbabwe and pay a man $55,000 to lure the Lion out into the open, simply for the ?pleasure? of killing him. Palmer managed to injure the Lion with an arrow from his bow but was not successful in killing him till around 40 hours after the arrow initially hit.
The Lion?s head was later cut off to be used as a trophy, his body was skinned, and the rest of his body unused. Palmer even tried to remove the Lion?s tracking caller – but failed.
Trophy hunting (as well as any other forms of hunting) is a huge problem in our society today, many of the world?s most endangered species are ?Ok to kill? and are ?not illegal?, for example, some of the exotic and endangered animals that are on the ?hunt-able list? consists of White Rhinos, Elephants, leopards and many more. Did you know that around 2000 species go officially extinct every year? That is about 4-5 species every day! – According to statistics.

This is really an extremity of cruelty, how can human being forget their humanity?? Strict punishment should be given for such insanity...Cecil needs justice,, please update about further consequences, public pledge can be appealing for this purpose I guess.

Its cruel , insane and totally inhumane activities. Why is it even being called trophy hunting. He should be given severe punishment for his barbaric act.

This is absolutely not acceptable.This dentist and all such others have no right over nature's possessions.Flora and fauna are the treasures of our earth which need to be protected.I feel that all such people must be handled well by law.There should be some legal action against them so that no body dares to hunt wildlife.The rate at which species are getting extinct are shocking.Something need to be done urgently about this.

As you said to hunt many exotic animals is not illegal and obviously it encourages those trophy hunters more.This dentist is disgusting.His measure of cruelty is limitless,daily mail UK rports that it's not his first kill he boasts to have a "hunting shrine" containing more than 50 animals head trophy killed around the world.What he has done shows like he is a maniac,a good human won't display such a barbaric act.He desreves a severe punishment that shall only provide those innocent animals a little justice.

I am from Zimbabwe myself and I was actually also preparing a report for Tunza on the Brutal killing of Cecil,,, but It seem you beat me to it hey... That's well written account of the events. Such poachers like Walter should be brought to justice... A few locals have taken to the streets though, to protest against the killing of the lion... Will update new developments on the matter... It is such a cruel , barbaric act by the disgraced dentist. I read that , after killing Cecil the lion , this dentist used a gruesome picture of its corpse to try and impress a barmaid. He is boasting that he has broken a record for the biggest lion. What kind of fame or prestige is it . He should be given severe punishment so that it serves as deterrent to others. His medical license to be suspended as well. Such cruel person can not be a human , forget about being a good dentist.
