For the first time, the face of the small sea creature Hallucigenia that lived 500 million years ago has been discovered. Previously, all fossils appeared to be without heads.
The first fossil was discovered over a 100 years ago. It had a thin, tube like body which was covered in pair of spines on one side and clawed appendages on the other.
Though it was previously ambiguous, the specimens found in Burgess Shale, Canada have revealed the whole creature.
After chipping rocks, the scientists saw a spoon shaped head, with two sets of teeth .One running from its throat to its stomach and another inside the creature's mouth.
It was believed by scientists that these teeth were used to suck up the food, and then transfer it to the gut.
There was also a strange blob found, having a different composition form that of the animal.
This turned out to be the decay fluid, which are it's gut contents that were squeezed out as the animal died and was fossilized.
Since this was during the Cambrian period, the Hallucigenia could help scientists learn more about this period.
This is indeed a great discovery for the scientific community, one that has cleared many years of ambiguity.

Scientists finally have a complete picture of nature's most bizarre animal. A bizarre extinct creature that had mystified scientists for more than a century has finally revealed face and head. The animal looks really surreal. Thanks for an interesting update, Aasha.

Amazing Hallucigenia :) Discovery of whole structure of creature that survived 500 million years can be of great importance to understand about evolution of creatures and predict further evolution.
Thank you for sharing dear Aasha :)
