Hello ambassadors and TUNZA members. So excited to report this article.

The Republic of Korea has made a great achievement about environment.(At least personally, it's a fantastic thing:)) The department of environment has made an environment map. The map contains environmental features of each city, from August 6th. In the category of nature, water, climate and air, life environment, and basic geography, the system shows total 25 maps of information.

So picture below is the main page of the website. Unfortunately, the English version is not yet made......

Main page

The reason they made this system is because they wanted to provide the environmental information easily and in diverse way. For the citizens, they can realize the environment of their residential area. In wider view, it can be used as a means of implementing new policies. We can obtain information based on the category and easy internet research.

So let's look at some maps. Maps below can be seen more detailed and the exact number can be seen in other pages, but for now, let's see the overview. By the way, since the map is written in Korean, I translated in English only the category so please understand..

First picture is a map shows the amount of waste generated per day, in three categories.

the amount of waste generated

To briefly explain, the dark parts of Korea are industrialized parts compared to the lighter parts. And it seems that construction waste is mostly generated in most regions.

The second map I'm going to share represents regions which are designated as preservation area. There are nine Ecological landscape protected area, 21 National park, 18 wetlands and conservation area, 1 wildlife sanctuary, and 206 specific island. It was very interesting.

The last map I will introduce indicates the frequency of finding endangered species. It was little bit disappointing for me that endangered species were not highly shown in some areas of the nation.

Endangered species

It's my pleasure to share this environmental information with world friends. I hope our country to work harder on preserving the nature and I believe this map to be a stepping-stone toward the environment.

Thanks ChaeYun for sharing a useful environmental information based initiative by Korea.

The maps are really interesting to look & ponder. They are in local language, it is understandable as most of the users will be Koreans.
