Dubai Bicycles Towards A Green Future!

by | 17-08-2015 16:06 recommendations 0

Yesterday, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai announced the commencement of bike rental services in major residential areas of Dubai from tram stations.
Bicycling enthusiasts will now be able to rent a bike on the go from tram stations as a part of this new service. The rental service will begin from the Dubai Media City, The Palm Jumeirah, Knowledge Village, and Al Sufouh stations of Dubai Tram, while in the succeeding phase the service will also extend to JLT and Dubai Marina stations as well as the extension of Al Sufouh Street separating Marina and JBR.

According to RTA, the eco-friendly initiative is aimed at motivating residents to add bicycles as part of their commuting alternatives within the provided bicycling tracks.

?Offering this service complements our efforts in linking the existing cycling lanes along Jumeirah Street with the Marina, as well as the extension of the JBR Walk. All traffic safety requirements and technical procedures of using bikes have been well attended to,? said Hussain Al Banna, Director of Traffic at RTA?s Traffic and Roads Agency.

The cycling path is situated between Dubai Media City and Jumeirah Beach Residence stations.

The track is provided with directional signs at world-class standards in order to improve traffic safety and supports RTA?s efforts to ascertain the safety of commuters in Dubai.

The biking path is a segment of RTA?s Bicycle master-plan that covers more than 900 kilometres of cycling paths in the coming years, thereby instilling a green habit among Dubai residents of using public transportation and bicycles as much as possible.

Besides, bicycling is a doubly-efficient environment-friendly practice. It contributes towards reduced GHG emissions and a healthy physique at the same time! :)
