Dhaka- The 2nd Least livable city, I live in!

by | 23-08-2015 19:44 recommendations 0

Dhaka is a classic example of how inequality impacts everyone. Depriving the whole country, all amenities are being concentrated here, but that doesn't make Dhaka a happy place. The only result is migration towards Dhaka has become so inevitable, straining it's absorptive capacity a bit more each day. And its no surprise that it ranks 2nd among 140 cities as the 'worst' city to live, following a war-torn city in the first place, according to the Global Livability Index.

Dhaka has ranked the second least liveable city in the world, an improvement from last year?s title of ?The most unlivable city in the world?. The South Asian metropolis managed to stay in the bottom tier of the ranking for the past five years, with little to no signs of improvement. In the annual Liveability Ranking by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), Dhaka scored 38.7 out of 100.

The report lists 140 cities worldwide based on a variety of lifestyle issues such health care, education, culture, environment and infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Melbourne scored a near perfect score of 97.5 as it remains the world's most liveable city for the fifth year in a row. In this year's report, the most startling fact is that liveability across the world has fallen by 1% due to a decline in stability and safety, the EIU explained.

"While this may seem marginal, it highlights that 57 of the cities surveyed have seen declines in liveability over the last five years," the report states. The EIU puts this decline down to incidences such as the shootings in France and Tunisia, conflict zones in Syria, Ukraine and Libya, along with civil unrest in the US.

Dhaka state govt should take this seriously , do the survey , find out the reasons and allocate funds to improve infrastructure , crime rate , employment rate and other such factors which are the reasons behind people disliking to live in Dhaka. Thanks for the report , Tapashi.
