by Luiz Bispo | 26-08-2015 05:46 recommendations 0

There are many kinds of conditions to live in each city and each country. Some cities are proud of their beautiful landscapes or delicious food could be the attract points. Local products also will be the important factor that draws people to live in. How about eco-friendly cities? How could resident's life look like?

Are you curious about the cities, which commit to environmental protection to help the earth? The Economist Intelligence Unit researched greenest cities in the world by scoring the marks in CO2 emissions, transportation options, water and waste management etc.

Let me introduce the top-ranked cities in the world, of them one of Brazil's city is also selected.

First of all, Vancouver, British Columbia!

This city plans to reduce CO2 emissions by 33%by 2020 and focuses on promoting green energy. Residents in Vancouver are able to enjoy a large path of bike around town easily and can feel as part of nature due to a towering mountain.

Secondly, Curitiba, Brazil!

Curitiba city is the only one to have over average scores on South American Siemens Index. Since starting to develop the world-leading recycle programs in 1980s, they plans to build metro system and additional 300km in Bike paths. The market around city offer residents local organic products.

Thirdly, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Copenhagen, Denmark is ranked as Europe's greenest city. More than 50% of residents use the bicycle paths so that has recorded at very low CO2 emissions rate. They spent a lot of money to build the green path, which have beautiful scenery such as parks, playgrounds and benches. Furthermore, people living in this city enjoy recycling and composting.

Fourth, San Francisco, California

This city has long history of environmental awareness as refer to their founding of the Sierra Club environmental group in the 19th Century. San Francisco has one of the highest recycling rate 77% in the world. This city requires people have to separate recyclable and compostable materials.

Lastly, Cape Town, South Africa

This city has put an effort to conserve energy and use renewable resources. The country's first commercial wind farm started to generate energy in 2008 and plan to have 10% of its energy from renewable resources by 2020. In addition to that, people prefer to use more bike paths and farmers market and grow their own vegetable from solar energy system.
