The 10 Most polluted places in the world

 1. Agbogbloshie in Ghana

This is the second largest electronic landfill in west Africa. In here, unused cables are burned to get the valuable copper inside. This process produces hazardous lead for health.


2.    Industry centre Dzerzhinsk in Russia


Important chemical industry for Russia is laid on Dzerzhinsk. Between 1930 and 1998,  there were 300.000 ton chemical waste which were disposed incorrectly. Many chemical material are absorbed to the ground or evaporated. The average ages are 47 years old for women and 42 years old for men.


3.      Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine


Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster is the worst power plant accident in history. It was caused by failure in atom nucleus fusion on 25 April 1986. Now, there is nobody lives in radius 30 kilometer. The ground around nuclear plant is still polluted and dangerous. Most of people who used to live there get leukemia.


4.      Tanning Site in Hazaribagh Bangladesh.


Hazaribagh is the largest tanning site in Bangladessh. Most of the factories still use old tanning method. They throw 22.000 litre poison waste to Buriganga river where are the most important river in Dhaka and the main water supplier. The toxics are carcinogenic and many citizens living there get skin and respiratory problems.

5.      Black Tin mining site, Kabwe, Zambia


In, Kabwe the second largest city in Zambia, high concentrate of lead are in many children blood. Smelting process causes metal particles blend with dust and fall down to the nearby areas.


6.      Gold Mining site in Borneo, Indonesia


Borneo is famous due to gold mining. Mercury is used for producing Gold and every year, more than 1000 tons mercury is spread and pollute ground water.


7.      Matanza-Riachuelo River, Argentine


15.000 factories throw their waste to this river. Chemical factories are responsible more for river pollution. The water contains lead, copper and other metals. The citizens generally get intestine and respiratory problems.


8.      Niger river Delta, Nigeria

Niger river delta is high density population area in Nigeria. This area is polluted due to oil and hydrocarbon . There are around 240.000 barrel petroleum arrive in that place every year. The main cause is accident of oil tankers and oil stealing.


9.    Citarum River, Indonesia


The water in this river is 1000 times dirtier than ordinary drinking water. There are high concentrate of Aluminum and iron inside since about 2000 factories use the river for water supply and waste disposal. The problem is, millions people use the water for their daily need.

Industrial city Norilsk, Russia


Almost 500 tons copper and nickel oxide and 2 millions sulfur oxide are in the air. The severe air pollution in the city shortens lifespan of factory workers ten years below the average of other Russia citizens. The pollution causes respiratory problems such as lung cancer.

    This is really innovative. I know Niger Delta in Nigeria is polluted but I didn't know it was so bad to make the top ten list. This is a wake up call.
