Use of Bio-Degradable Products

by Rohan Kapur | 03-11-2015 21:39 recommendations 0

It has been made compulsory is UAE to use Bio-Degradable Plastic bags but still other single use disposal products are full in the market. They are just thrown in the garbage as they are single use and add burden to the Landfills. Slowly UAE is converting all this single use disposal line of products into Bio-degradable as this will reduce the burden & will degrade easily into the environment much quicker than plastic & thermo Cole.

I read in the Gulf News about UAE?s Female Emirati entrepreneur Ms. Lamis Harib and I wish to share her small story. Her company is the first Arab company to not just supply but offer design capabilities of biodegradable packaging and bio-disposables in the Middle East.

The high temperatures & other harsh weather conditions of the UAE make the reputed European brands of biodegradable bio-disposables not much successful. Their melting points are much lower therefore they degrade easily, sometimes in parked cars as well. [Plastic Straws & cups for example]

Now to overcome this problem she started to design and manufacture the products herself. Her disposable products are starting to take the country?s trendy food and beverage hotshots by storm. The products are plant-based and made of material which will decompose naturally which will reduce the volume of waste.

Due to this innovative design the customers are now highly satisfied as the products are of high quality. Their range of products includes cups, straws, plates, carry-on bags, zipper bags, forks, spoons, knives etc.

Such initiatives shows the continuous undeterred commitment of the UAE to make this region sustainable. As the load on the landfills will reduce the better it will be.

I encourage all the readers to be careful buyers. Check the sustainability factor of the packaging of the goods you are buying. Enquire & read on the packaging & please do recycle them as much as possible & try to discourage the Foam Cups & cheap plastic products which are non-recyclable & take hundreds of years to degrade.

Thanks for reading

Well said, Rohan. We must buy products at first place with minimum packaging. Then even for packaging, we should look for packaging made of biodegradable plastics or recycleable material. Thanks for sharing Ms. Lamis Harib's story.
