Our River, Our Future

by Jamaica Layos | 19-11-2015 22:18 recommendations 0

There?s always a sadness painted in my heart every time I saw people throwing their garbage in the river in our region yet I am eager to make difference to let them know how important our river. Yes there?s a pain every time I saw it. What will happen to our world if all of us will continue to throw our garbage anywhere? Imagine our rivers, seas, and lakes that full of garbage. No way! This is not what we want to see in our generation and in the future generations to come. I want to see a paradise, I want to preserve our Mother Earth.

According to Article 1 of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change: A change of climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity that alters the composition of the global atmosphere and which is in addition to natural variability observed over comparable time periods. Throwing of garbage contributes to the climate change.

I am just so happy that our government here in Cebu City is making a way to wake up the Cebuanos that we must take good care of our rivers, seas and lakes through taking a small act of kindness not to throw garbage anywhere and how to recycle, reuse, and reduce.

I remember last September 26, 2015, the Office of the Mayor Cebu City Management Council Cebu Academe Network conduct the 4th River Summit where different universities in Cebu City joined such as Cebu Normal University, Cebu Institute of Technology University, Cebu Doctors University, University of Visayas, University of Cebu, Cebu Technological University, and  Southwestern University. Almost 5,000 students from different university joined the River Summit 2015.

Well the #NOWPH and Project NOWTBUKS joined the River Summit Exhibit 2015. There were almost 500 students joined the #NOWPH campaign, take a selfie and pledge to save the EARTH through 15 Ways to LEDS (Low Emission Development Strategies). The students from different universities also had an on the spot recycling contest where they come up with really very good ideas.

The whole world is a chain of life linked together, we all depend on one another to survive. This is why conservation of our aquatic lives is higly important. That was a nice initiative by the Cubu authorities.

River, seas and oceans are all very crucial sources of water and home for many marine animals. They are an integral part of whole eco-system so it's our duty to keep them clean. Glad to know that #NOWPH and Project NOWTBUKS were actively involved in River Summit and pledged to save Earth . Thanks for sharing with nice pictures.
