#NotOnWatchPhilippines NOWPHCampaign supports COP21

?Filipino Voices call for Climate Action?

Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), one of the extreme events happened last year 2013 that devastated the Visayan Region, was a manifestation of climate change that has impact on the economy, environment and community productivity.

In response to this and in line with the mission of the 2015 Paris Climate Conference in the call to prevent global warming from reaching two degrees Celsius, Philippines supports the One Million Filipino Youth Voices Campaign that aims to unite the Filipino Youth which seeks to raise public consciousness on the science of the climate change and lead a climate resilient lifestyle. The government also elevated the climate change into a national concern and implemented corresponding policies and programs such as creation of CCC or Climate Change Commission, Climate Change Act of 2009, and National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP). (http://www.nowph.org/)

According to nowph.org, climate change cannot be stopped now but it can be slowed down. Yes we can – HOW? A simple act of doing the LEDS (Low Emission Development Strategies) will do but it would be better if everyone of us encourage and make a Climate Change Reality Projects or Initiatives to do something that will help climate change slowed down.

Our Eco-Leaders here in Philippines foresee the empowered young people to be the VOICE of climate change action and committed young minds towards climate action.

In line with the above vision, CIT IE Council leads the Cebu City Philippines Youth in the #NOWPH Campaign that supports the climate change reality through introducing to them the 15 ways to do the LEDS, encouraging them to do it, and through pledge offline caravans.

There are 15 ways to do the LEDS (Low Emission Development Strategies), these includes the

1. Grow a Tree

2. Unplug and Switch off

3. Goodbye Plastic Bags, Hello Eco Bags

4. Segregate

5. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

6. No to Burning of Wastes

7. Promote renewable energy

8. Bring your own tumbler

9. Use energy efficient appliances

10. Walk. Use Bike

11. Recycle Electronic Baterries

12. Be Aware of the Environmental Laws

13. Use pail, dipper, and cups

14. Think before you print

15. Support Earth Products

As of December 6, 2015, there are 1, 257, 333 (1.3 Million) Filipino Youth who pledge to save the Earth by doing the 15 ways to do the LEDS and supports the mission of 2015 Paris Climate Change Conference that also known as COP21.
