Good Bye to 2015

Wishing A Very Happy New Year to All in 2016

Dead Zones Were Discovered in the Atlantic Ocean

In February 2015, a study published in the journal Global Change Biology predicted that climate change is predicted to cause the number of ocean dead zones to increase. A few months later, marine biologists reported on the first-ever observed dead zones in the Atlantic Ocean. Unlike dead zones formed from toxic algal blooms, the Atlantic zones were the result of large, underwater cyclones that can spin for months.

Corals Are Eating Plastic, and That s Not Good

There are some 269,000 tonnes of microplastic floating in the ocean, so perhaps coral are helping to filter it out. That s a logical assumption. Unfortunately, plastic does not biodegrade, and it does not go away. In this study, researchers discover that corals will suck up plastic particles in the water, but those particles will then lodge inside the corals digestive tissue, potentially interfering with their normal feeding.

Fish Are Diving Deeper to Escape Ocean Warming

Behaviours of marine species are changing and the fish are diving deeper to escape ocean warming. Those living on land cannot even do that so my friends

Plastics accumulating in coral reefs are very dangerous and could lead to the death of some weak corals. People should know that corals protect our shores and serve as a rich basin for biodiversity

Wish you a very Happy New Year 2016 dear Simran. Needless to say, 2015 had been one of the worst for oceans and our ecology as a whole. But one positive side is, the world is getting more concerned to these environmental entities and new researches have been carried out to analyse the extermity of pollution and degradation. Hopefully New Year 2016 will be more impactful in reducing human footprint and increasing handprint :)
