Zika Virus, Mosquito Vs. Human , War of Pesticide ? No more |

For such a tiny creature, mosquitoes have caused humans untold misery for millennia. The insect, which measures no more than a few millimeters in length, has killed tens of millions of human beings by spreading deadly diseases like malaria and dengue fever with its bite.
The Zika Virus, which scientists believe may be causing severe birth defects in newborn children whose mothers had been infected, is the latest mosquito-borne illness to strike fear in the public as it explodes through Latin America and threatens the U.S.
Aedes aegypti mosquitos are seen in a lab test in American Countries like Brazil, Argentina. The mosquito transmits the Zika virus and is being studied at the institute. Zika has once again raised the question of how to stop mosquitoes from transmitting disease.
But if mosquitoes have been killing human beings, human beings have long been doing the same—with varying levels of success. But none of these methods worked sustainably. So, Insects are developing tolerance and resistance against pesticides we use widely.
But still we have hope, hope for new method we can apply to control Mosquito, its not other than Recombinant DNA technology or gene modification.
New Gene Editing method had been practiced in lab and is successful too and now New Era begun in control of Mosquito.
Humans have tried to protect themselves against the scourge of mosquitoes for centuries. Ancient Egyptians are said to have slept under the nets to avoid the insects, which feed at night. Native Americans applied muds and plants to their skin to keep the bugs away. But none of the methods stopped or even slowed mosquitoes attack.
In world including Nepal, People started using DDT (now banned) to control Malaria. And later it became popular in Nepali?s field to control insect, pests but it didn?t last longer as it carried severe problems to health and crops too.
After gene modification methods , mosquito will continue but soon its population will fall down as it will cause them problem in reproduction. Picture :http://www.environmentalhealthnews.org/ehs/images/2016/ehn-and-tdc/jan/Aedes%20Mosquito.jpg |

Yes Nepal is also being its area but what if its summer, it will spread rapidly. Now its winter and climate is also cold. If not controlled now it will be detrimental for Nepal in upcoming summer.
Thanks Bindu

Yes, Kamaldeen it will pose serious threat in AFrica if not controlled on time :(

Yeah, Arushi Recombinant DNA technology is best way to sterilize these mosquito so they are unable to reproduce more but they can copulate . Ultimately their population will fall down.

Dear Sujan Brother, Thank you for introducing the current threat Zika Virus. The news has been highlighted since several days due to its severe symptoms in affected and newborns as well. I recently saw the news stating the threat of Zika Virus in Nepal as well. I am hopeful the advanced research be successful in introducing Genetically modified Aedes to phase out the current transmitters.

When I heard about Zika virus, my prayer is that it should be controlled before it reached Africa. In Africa continent, we see mosquitoes are normal insects, we are used to it Malaria is now a normal illness. With Zika virus, it is no doubt it will poses more threat to human than malaria. #saynotozikavirus

Sujan-I am also reading recombinant DNA technology in my Biology Chapter 'Biotechnology and it's applications'. Indeed, genetically modified mosquitoes can snuff out and fight the Zika Virus. US is in advance stages and is soon planning to do field trails of genetically modified males in Aedes - responsible for transmitting Zika, Dengue, Chikungunya and Yellow Fever - so that their offspring die young. This is the fastest way to handle such a virus otherwise developing vaccines could take years.
