First, I am working Girl Scout Association of Mongolia. TThe Girl Scout Association of Mongolia introduced the concept of the International Day of the Girl to the Children and Family Development Department of the National Authority for Children (NA) - the Government`s Implementing Agency and they accepted and encouraged GSAM`s efforts, initiative and proposal to celebrate the International Day of the Girl nationwide in Mongolia every year starting from 2012.  The National Authority for Children sent decree to its all branches in 21 provinces (Mongolia has 21 provinces) and Ulaanbaatar. The National Authority for Children developed a guidance containing introductions, aim and ideas on how to celebrate the International Day of the Girl at schools, communities and at local decision makers level. The GSAM provided the National Authority for Children with all necessary information about the Day. The National Authority provided a clear message and guidance about the International Day of the Girl- such as this Day should focus on highlighting value and education of the girls and to protect their rights. And it was encouraged to organize advocacy activities   at decision making, community, school and family level.

In accordance with the guidance from the National Authority for Children administration of all schools and organisations working with children organized girls right advocacy activities to their possibilities and capacity. This is the first time we are celebrating International Day of the Girl and it will be enriched with greater experiences from year to year bringing more awareness of girls` issues and serving as platform for girls to express their voice.

You are right! We need to create more awareness about this issue. When I was in Rio, I had spoken about Education for sustainable development, especially for the girl child at one forum. Lot of work is being done , but we have to put in more effort. All the best Bolortuya Baatar!
