Report filed from Doha, Qatar
COY8 an acronym for the Conference Of Youth and was held in Doha , Qatar from 23rd to 25th November just before COP18 , the UNFCCC climate change conference . COY is a global youth movement on climate change and it was indeed a privilege to be the YOUNGEST DELEGATE at this global congregation of youth. There were only 3 youth at this conference from the UAE and I was the only Indian origin person in this group.
Over 3 days , we spent more than 14 hours daily in more than 25 workshops and breakout sessions that ranged from a writing workshop, to panel discussions and UNFCC information sessions. COY8 provided youth to establish grassroots organizations thereby enabling us to reach out to our communities through social media and be the change they want to see happen.
It brought together youth from over 150 organisations from across the globe – from Australia, New Zealand , across SE Asia , India , China , the Middle East , Africa , Europe and the Americas.
I met so many of my climate activist friends whom I had met in Rio and we pledged to continue working on Rio legacy.
It was indeed an honour for all of us when Ms Christina Figueres , the Executive Secretary of UNFCCC visited us and encouraged us in our fight for climate justice . My picture with her is one which shall be a highlight for me.
I am still in Doha attending COP18 , which is very hectic. I am filing in this late night report as tomorrow is going to be another busy day at work.
