The Qatar Sustainability Expo which ran from 27th Nov to 7th Dec at Doha Exhibition Centre was a great example of how to bring the concept of sustainability to the common people. As a delegate of COP18 , I spent 2 whole days at the venue learning from the many interactive displays .
I also attended several lectures on sustainability and also how Qatar is seeking innovative ways of conserving its vast energy resources. UAE?s alternate energy company , MASDAR , had a wonderful exhibition booth there – they had a huge exhibit at Rio+20 as well and it was indeed a pleasure to visit them again.
Being a UNEP member, it was a privilege to spend a lot of time at the UNEP booth and learn about the innovative projects that are underway.
I plant trees wherever I go and I showed my solidarity to this cause by participating in the ?One Million Tree Campaign? ongoing in Qatar.
I recorded my message on the Sustainability Wall which was ?Stop Talking, Start Planting? which is a repetition of the slogan of Plant-for-the-Planet of whom I am the UAE academy coordinator.
The highlight of my visit was holding the beautiful Arabian falcon. A lot has been done for the conservation and protection of this majestic bird of prey and having it perched on my hand was a unique experience.
