REF = Rating on Eco-Friendliness measurement

by | 14-01-2013 18:19 recommendations 0

In the year 2011 , during our weekly meeting  of JCGC , the  issue of dumping garbage on open area  was raised.  To control them we tried  to request with  poster and inform to each societies.

When we talked  to our parents,  we got the idea ,  " The parameter  can not be improved ,  if it is not measurable"

So,  we had started  measuring  the Eco-Friendliness  of  our  parties  and for our realisation /improvement .  After attending parties,  we discussed the Eco-friendliness of the party.  We had started noting down  the merit and demerit points in terms of Eco-friendliness.

To measure it , we discussed with  many local experts and searched in Internet.    Initially it  was not structured properly , but with gaining of experience, after lot of  discussion we have reached to below conclusion.

This is a draft  proposal  , yet to be  finalised and till we are  working on it  for finalisation for our area.

Name  of the Index :-  REF = Rating on Eco-Friendliness.

Purpose of the REF:-    To measure the Eco-friendliness of  any party / function and put effort  for improvement.

Aim of the REF:-   1. To spread awareness  among society with current status and  desire level.
2.  To improve the Eco-friendliness.  Gradually focus on arranging only   eco friendly  party.

Developed by :-  Members of Children?s Green Club
Applicable :-   Any  parties / conferences / functions where energy  is being consumed / waste is being generated.

Basic concept :-
1.    Need to maintain Eco-friendliness  with available solution around us. If we are not taking care for our party / function, it is a demerit for us. The allotted marks will be deducted from Basic point 50. This is called B.
2.    Taking  extra / difficult initiative to ensure event more greener , doing extra will lead extra credit. This is called G.
3.    The tabulated  system may not suitable all parties / functions, need to change  based on our experience and desire to start comparative study. This can be changed as per the change of situation / place / availability of solution .
4.    For comparative study,  the REF can be used with  predefined set reference / parameters .

REF  = {Total  points received ( B + G )x 100 } / Out of Total  points  ( B + 50  )

Guide Lines for calculating  Basic Eco-Friendliness ( B )
Basic point: -  50
Whatever normal Eco-friendly solutions are  available with us  if those are being followed  50 points  will be provided.  In case of  not following the solution , points will be deducted as per below table.

Guide lines for deduction of points

( The below information was in table but unable post in table, so made in smaller text size)

Note :-  1. The guide lines can be modified  based on applicable / available parameters. Total basic points will be calculated for the applicable parameters only and to be marked  against  performance of a particular  party.
2.  In case of any parameter not appearing  in  particular function,  that parameter may be deleted  and the table can be restructured.

Guide Lines for Calculating  Extra effort on  Eco-Friendliness ( G )
Extra point =  50

Whatever  extra effort  can be put for greening  the  earth .

( The below information was in table but unable post in table, so made in smaller text size)
Major area    Point allotted    Index    20% Addition    100% addition
Supporting / Encouraging  for calculating REF    5    Disclosed Plan in advance for  Green party and  no hiding of situation     Not disclosed in advance and  extended 20%  support / information.    Full support  for REF calculation and no hiding
Explain the trips and system  to guests     5    No. of  guest involved     Extend to  10% guest ( minimum 5 nos. guest )     Covered 100% guest  ( minimum 50 guests )

Waste management    10    Waste Recycled    10%  recycled     80% recycled
Total         G           50

Request:-
1.    The above guidelines  were simplified to avoid any complexity  in measuring of  energy  consumed / GHG generated / waste generated / recycled / distance traveled.
2.    Need to develop a better system/  guide line  for well acceptance , for which need support of all  experts and green lovers /Eco-Ambassadors / Eco Gen Team.

I too make like this but different one related with environment for my school green club. As a secretary of our school green club I did it independently. It is very difficult to take measures in other areas of our town apart from my school time but I did it successfully. After submitting it to my faculty I'll publish here.

    Thanks for you comments.
Yes my team helped a lot to make this structure and measure the situation for pointing out the gap.
For improvement of the situation we need to quantify he current status and show the green goal/destination. Need your support for putting the guide lines ( marked with orange & yellow colour ) in tabulating form.

This REF system was developed by Rajashreedidi and started measuring by her along with her friends .
Due to offering of Non-Veg. food to my 22 nos. friends in my birthday, she had deducted extra 3 points. So, be careful before organizing any party.
