I went to a mall last weekend to get the notebook cover. When I was browsing a store, I came upon a cool looking leather cover which was made from the 'recycled leather'. It was my first time to see a product with recycled leather. The store had many items made from the recycled leather.
According to my web searching result, the recycled leather can be defined as follows: The recycling leather process involves treating and recycling leather off cuts that are thrown away by tanneries and other leather product industries, and then using it in the production of composite materials. To recycle leather, firstly the leather off cuts must be shredded. Next, the shredded leather material is glued together with catalysers and resin. It is then pressed between metallic molds of various sizes and shapes, or pressed directly onto sublayers to form plywoods. It is then shaped into the chosen item. Once finished, it has a very polished appearance and alleviates the need for any additional finishing. These recycled leather products are aesthetically pleasing and have heat insulation properties as well. There are a variety of ways to use them, from floor tiles, furniture to car interiors and all have the natural leather look. Popular furniture store 'La-Z-Boy' in U.S. also carries many items made from recycled leather, and interior design firms use recycled leather for wall and floor decorating as well. Animal right advocates also say that using recycled leather will reduce the number of animals slaughtered for the commercial use. So if you use recycled leather items, you will help out environment as well as animals. Image: Google images
