Nkana Green Blingers' Echat Show

by | 18-02-2013 00:00 recommendations 0

Unite4Climate Zambia has demonstrated the power of children in changing the world.  It has proved to be a successful model worthy of emulation both locally and across the globe.  Standing on its promise of giving children a voice, the programme continues to empower young people with tools that will make them effective advocates for change at all levels of society.

The past three years of Unite4Climate have shown that levels of information on climate change remain low despite increased media coverage about global warming.  The Zambian child still does not have accurate information about climate change, environmental degradation and sustainability, and the impact that these issues have on his individual life.  Added to that, those that are aware need further information on how they can engage.

The climate ambassadors trained under Unite4Climate have been empowered with skills that will encourage their artistic and media expression to make their educational experiences more engaging, as well as involve them in decision-making. One such empowerment is the opening up of media hubs all over the Ten Provinces of Zambia to make it easy for climate Ambassadors to do their work and to that effect Flava Fm of Kitwe has adopted the young talent on their airwaves 87.7 giving them a Live 30- 45 minutes slot to do their show called Echat.
The programme has captured many as participation from the listeners  during the programme speaks for itself.
"Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country".

Nice! I have always felt that there is a lack of information about global warming. It's great to see you guys working for both the environment and your country..I surely believe that more kids would care about the environment thanks to your hard work :)

Yes, fully agree with the last catchline...But I have seen many bright people who still think that global warming/climate chage etc are only hyped phrases...don't know what more is required to convince them!!!

so true @christy, and now that our adults today are slow to act, we must become the latest adults, and with what we are all doing on the website and in our regions- we indeed are proving that we are.

This is an awesome initiative! The children is the people paying the cost of climate change. So it is very important to educate them about climate change and its impact on their life.
