6000 DEAD PIGS DUMPED IN HONG KONG RIVER |
---|
by Neha Swaminathan | 14-03-2013 01:20 0 |
CNN has reported that nearly 6,000 dead, bloated pigs have been pulled so far from the river that flows through the center of Shanghai. Reports also say they expect to find more pigs but they also say the city's water is fine.
A court has issued prison sentences for 46 people convicted of selling meat from diseased pigs. The corpses are allegedly dumped in the river by pig farms.
A later water sample was found to contain a porcine circovirus, Xinhua said. The WHO has said there are two types of porcine circoviruses, but neither is known to cause disease in humans.
The pink, decomposing pigs have created foul odors and alarmed residents. Some jokes like "I finally figured out why drinking boiled water makes me gain weight == because it is in fact pork soup!" are also doing the rounds.
What is alarming is how on Earth someone thinks of dumping dead animals in city water resources? It makes one fear how a few of us especially youth are going to educate the public on the consequences of their irresponsible actions.
We can educate, shout, cry, plead and do what else? Are these going to be enough? If humans do not have human values, we are degrading humanity to the Animal Kingdom.
Only way may be to innovate an electronic chip to be coded with human values and to be implanted in every baby at the time of birth. Samsung, are you hearing? I am still hopeful on Earth, right?
What an irony that we are talking of celebrating World Water Day and circulating the slogan "Water Water Everywhere only if we share". May be UN has to add the words "and care" at the end. |

Czar made a good point. The way human treats animals reflects the way human treats each other. So we need to put efforts to improve our humanism in every aspect of life.

Thanks Pratap, Your observtion is very true, people do anything for their money and think monetary success is the only or min goal in life. What will they do by passing the wealth if the children cannot get fresh air, fresh water and food to eat. Wealth in a sick world is useless.

The way people treat animals reflect also the way how the entire population treat the people among them. It is really fearful to read the issue. It only means that many people are now okay in killing massive numbers of animals all over the world. I believe it is not in Hongkong alone. But, the question there is "Will we let this keep on happening?"

Education will be the LEAST thing that we can provide for bettering out environment. We can do this, all together, as the generation of youth - the generation of the warriors of the environment.

Very sad...I read this story in Times of India.
Same is the case in many cities in India also (Varanasi may be the worst where dead bodies are also dumped in the river)...
Thx for sharing this..
