With this changing world, there are evolving trends and patterns of consumption, poverty alleviation (or the oxymoron), development models, perspective thesis and much more. Now that the international community has acknowledged the necessity and imperative nature of a globally binding venture towards sustainable development, it is equally important to analyse the constituent realities of such an agreement: the so-called development goals.
The Millennium Development Goals, launched over a decade ago, may have had a lot of experimentation errors, applicability faults and non-ambitious goals, yet remained a highlight for equitable development in an effort to boost the world's sensitivity towards environmental conservation. Did it accomplish? It did , but to some extend. Needless to say, it managed to counter epidemics, poverty and sanitation problems in many regions especially the Sub-Saharan Africa, to much extent it focused on gender empowerment and child mortality. But unfortunately, what essentially lacked in the MDGs was not its content, viewing it liberally, but its implementation what we need to realize is that no matter how many reforms of UN Documents , or bilateral treaties, accords, conventions we sign or ratify, at the end of the day, what counts is making available its practical implementation on a grass-root level- without implementation and continued follow-up, we would live in a utopia of development and green economy.
Sustainable Development Goals, MDGs' younger, yet much more awaited, sister would be born in 2015 we all await its birth and growth and applicability in all sorts of status quo. For me, the SDGs should be a universally streamlined set of targets , ambitious yet realistic, aiming not only at social issues, but also the three pillars of green economy, extending onto the economic and political values of sustainable development. Let us now hope that the transition to Green Economy is catalyzed gradually yet steadily by the Post-2015 SDGs, and most predominantly, that the rights of Future Generations- the Youth- are upheld in the framework.
Till then, lets go GREEN!

I think political commitment, institutional framework for the sustainable development, social justice ,technological advancement ,economic analysis not the financial analysis, environmental and legal aspect have to keep in mind.

Well said, Czar!
Yes, Education is something very important rather a compulsion in today's world. The new goals must ensure a concrete and holistic framework for spread of both
(a) Awareness
(b) Education
(c) Essential Skills
in a sustainable way, of course.

And also, the MDGs are not that known by all of the people, therefore, leaving ALL the responsibilities and actions needed to those people who know about it and to those who are of the authority. Population involvement __ this must be one of their focus also. Because at the end it is also the entire people who must work hand in hand to walk towards a certain goal and reach the same dream when time comes. But let us take this is mind: Educate, inform first.

Thank you everyone for your comments.
Yes, political commitment ,by far , remains one the most important elements for sustainable development.
That said, yes, Agenda 21 is a basic guideline on which we can build upon future set of goals. For me, unlike in the mdgs, the SDGs must know incorporate policies and targets for maximum civil society participation and global cooperation for environmental conservation.

personally I find MDG more focused than agenda 21, however commitment for implementation and political desire is a must in each state to ensure achievement of goals.

Practically, many people are not aware about MDG in India and many other countries. There is a need of strong initiatives by NGO/YO to spread the words.
