In my Country Ecuador there is a important type of Palm called "Palma the Ramos"were live two wonderful species of birds that are the  "Ognorhynchus icterotis" called in Ecuador "Loro Orejiamarillo" and the "Leptosittaca branickii" called in Ecuador "Loro Cachetidorado" this two species of birds are called palm parrots, because they live in this palm, we can found them in Ecuador in the provinces of Carchi, Imbabura, Pichincha, Cotopaxi, Loja, Zamora, and Bolivar, they live in highlands but they are endangered because the indiscriminate felling of the palm were the parrots live.

The problem is that the catholic religion had the custom to receive Jesus in the passion week with this type of palm, that represents the entry of Jesus to Jerusalem that in these times they received with olive palm the 95% of the population in Ecuador its catholic, and this event occurs in the day called "Domingo de Ramos", this is a traditional and an important tradition in Ecuador for the catholic believers.

The problem is that a lot of people sells this type of palm in the day of "Domingo de Ramos" and they have been doing this for a long time ago, so this represents a big problem for the palm specie that is drastically reducing of the areas and also for the parrots that lives there actually there are less than 400 "Cachetidorado" birds in the provinces of Loja Zamora and Bolivar, and just 20 "Orejiamarillo" birds in all the country of Ecuador, this are a specially type of parrot and they are endangered because they cant adapt to this type of changes and is why we are very worry that this parrots become extinct with the palm.

Actually a lot of organizations are helping to the palm and birds and they have campaigns to protects this plants that also the Catholics believers and Catholics associations are supporting, and because of that my high school "San Gerardo" helping by the municipality of the city Loja this special day "Domingo de Ramos" the ecological club of my High school were i am, are going to give "ramos" to the catholic people made of roses, laurel, rosemary, eucalyptus branches, pine branches, etc. to not lose this important tradition and because we considerate that this parrots and this specie of palm are very important for the ecosystem of the area.

When we felling the palm, we unbalance the ecosystem, we are killing this poors animals and also we are collaborating to the change climate.
