by | 23-03-2013 16:52 recommendations 0

On 22nd March 2013, Volunteer for Bangladesh celebrated World Water Day 2013 among the community people in slums of Bangladesh. On this program awareness was raised about using clean water including methods of water purification.

This program was held in the slum of Rayerbazar in Dhaka and slum of Motijhorna in Chittagong. The volunteers of VBD provided necessary details and a practical demonstration of making natural water purification system to a selected number of community families in the slums. The home-made water purification system is comparably easier to make, cost-effective and the materials are locally accessible and can be availed at a lower cost.

The program started at 10 am and continued till 4 pm. The volunteers continued with their practical demonstration and home-made water purification system was also explained in details by drawings laid out in a calendar. This calendar was distributed among the slum peoples in turns by the volunteers and they also explained it clearly. By the end of the day 12 such home-made water purification system was made by the volunteers with the involvement of around 80 slum families.

Same project will be organized by TUNZA Eco Generation very soon & it will be series event for slum community in Dhaka. I will engage school going students at this event for their learning & will encourage them to implement same thing from their own self.

Oh, very interesting! We did the same thing many times in elementary schools in Korea. Great to see the same experiment being done there too :D
It must be a very valuable education for the people living in the slum. They do need an access to safe water. Good job :D
