?Let?s do it?- first and only comment made by SAYEN Sub Regional Youth Advisor Ms. Arati Rana and water analyst Mr. Abhishek Raj Bajracharya from Water Analysis laboratory, when I said, ?Lets organise an interaction program on Stone Spouts and its challenges where participants from three different faculty will sit together to find solution to the problem.? As a result, on March 21st 2013, in course of celebrating National Water Week 2013, we organised an interaction program on ?Stone Spouts: For Water and Cultural Sustainability.? at Kathmandu University School of Arts (KUSOA) premises.
Altogether 40 participants comprising students, faculty members including Dean of School of Arts Dr. Mahesh Baskota attended and appraised the program. The main !--object--ive of the program was to find out how students from community development, environmental management and social workers representing an organization would respond to single problem of stone spouts. ?Stone spouts which is a symbol of Nepalese engineering excellence along with social, historical and cultural monument is degrading and disappearing, unless we start to conserve it from now, we will lose it forever.? Mr. Abhishek quoted. The program was the first step to develop strategy for conservation of those heritages.
It was simply and introductory program where participants were shared information on Stone spouts, its challenges and management practises that are being adapted by communities and government to conserve it. Participants were very much excited to know about the issue and found out some solutions from their perspective (for eg: as student of community development). ?Culture and development has to go together or we will lose our identity and gifts of civilization process? Ms. Samikshya Basistha focused from KUSOA.
The program was appreciated by all the participants and they interacted among themselves. The program gave them a platform to exchange their ideas that they receive from their respective field. It also has become a forum for the participants and institutions to discuss about the subject matter and think from different and youthful perspective in any issue. The program did not just discussed on what are the solutions? But also how we will take that to community?
Talking about the topic, participants from School of Environmental Science and Management (SchEMS) said, ?Development activities cannot be reversed. But measures could be taken to improve status of those stone spouts such as effective intervention for recharging the source or channels of the spouts via Rainwater harvesting, which is being practised at Aalko hiti in Lalitpur.? All the participants have shown enthusiasm to take next step by developing campaign strategy from each institution to conserve stone spouts.
We would like to thank Tunza-Eco generation team for providing souvenirs and other resources.
(this is not an official program of National water week 2013. the program was organised to share ideas among students only.)

thank you very much Pratap for inviting me in such an innovative and refreshing program. Though I have been working in field of water quality management for three years I got to see and find out so many ideas from different perspective collectively from single platform... wish you luck for your next step and looking forward to be a part of that program as well
