UNIQUE DANCE ON WORLD WATER DAY 2013

by Neha Swaminathan | 24-03-2013 04:34 recommendations 0

My Water Day celebration this year on 22 March 2013 was unique – A fusion of Indian classical dance used to convey an environmental message. This was performed at India Pavilion in Global Village which is a huge shopping and entertainment area with separate areas earmarked for each country.  We can purchase the specialty goods from each country under one huge location in a manner symbolizing global unity under one roof.

The India pavilion attracts huge visitors every day with almost 1000 visitors over the weekends. Our classical dance was performed by climbing on pots. As pots symbolize water holders, I thought of an idea to spread water conservation message through the decoration on the pots. Our classical dance was appreciated by the anchor as one of the best classical dances ever seen over the past 17 years – Thanks to the unique composition by our dance master Mr.Natrajan.

I also attended a Water Day Walk where I took the lead to say a Water Day Pledge repeated by many people. The pledge was as below:

I will shorten the shower time from 10 minutes to 3 minutes.

I will ensure not to waste food in any manner.

I will stop the water running as I brush my teeth.

I will eat more vegetables than meat.

I will drink all the water in a plastic bottle without throwing away part of it.

I will prevent and inform right people if I see any water leakage.

I will be an advocate for water reuse or recycling.

I will save water in every way I can.

I am attaching a few snaps from my dance program and the message that was spread by decorating the pots. Participants were (left to right) - Lohita, Srinithi, myself, Rashika and Devgani.
