Poor Drainage System of Rain Water in Dhaka

by | 26-03-2013 05:34 recommendations 0

The drainage system of Dhaka City for rain water is really very poor. As it is seen here as a common phenomena we are seriously worried on it. It is known to us that Bangladesh is a developing country which is fighting for becoming a middle earned state. That's why the development projects is going on high speed. But most the cases it is just overlooking the environment aspects. So i found in my survey that the newly developed residential projects are containing no consideration in drainage system. So that the city dwellers have to suffer a lot during reasons. Even in a little rain the water clogging occurs throwing us in a great suffer.

Not only the engineers & planners but also the active & vision oriented mentality of the investors & policy maker can create a sustainable livable Dhaka for us.

One special thing is that Artificial recharge by rain water harvesting system can really be very effective in a such a situation. Road side gutter is a must for every roads. No canal can be filled out by the land business to build multistory building.

Otherwise the city of traffic jam would be very worse to us bringing terrible lifestyle.

rainwater harvesting, sorry but I felt more than RWH its all about storm water management, of course RWH is a very good solution but we also need to look whether ground has enough infiltration capacity or not along condition of groundwater..artificial recharging in saturated soil may bring another problem....

a proper Drainage system is very important for any city, otherwise everything will be stuck, along with the development during the hard monsoon times.
It's time the creative engineers bring in some passion and hard work to alter the situation.

Thanks for your vivid report. For residences in urban city, well organized infrastructure like electronic, road, water is crucial factor that decides the quality of life. Engineers and Policy maker should be well aware of that point before they make actual decision on new town building.
