Our project aims towards waste management & installment of proper disposal system of biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes in society. And also utilize energy from these hazards. Today with growing urbanization and industrialization our consumption rate has manifolded, thus creating lot of waste. Simultaneously it has proved to be a great hazard whose management has become a vital necessity of the contemporary world. So we set-off to create awareness and revolutionize some societal activities which lead to environmental degradation, and formed "GBA?. We always pick an environmental issue of our locality and try to find and give suitable solution to it.
PROJECT !--object--IVES- Optimum use of Waste: We have worked on, to segregate the wastes into biodegradable & non-biodegradable and have a proper disposal method of it so that the energy stored in it can be utilized fully. This step of ours would manage the hazardous wastes & also help us to meet with the growing energy demands of the modern era. To inculcate Waste Management practices among Citizens: We organized rallies and awareness campaigns (pamphlet distribution & door to door campaign) to create awareness amidst people and inculcate proper waste segregation practices so that the problem could be eradicated from its root and people can contribute their bits to save environment. Conservation of non-renewable energy sources: We have rediscovered a scientific and an eco-friendly method to both dispose and simultaneously utilize the non-biodegradable waste to generate energy by the process of co-incineration and by this we would be able to reduce use of non-renewable resources in generating heat energy up to great extent. Employment Generation: Presently, we have generated employment of around 70 people to collect wastes from the dustbins and take it to their disposal sites. Soon a much larger group would be employed for the same. PROJECT RESEARCH- Survey and Audits conducted: We did surveys-audits in our locality with the aim to find present waste management practices and the results which we got were shocking to us as: a. No Safe and Eco-friendly Waste Disposal System was followed b. At many places waste was carelessly dumped into water bodies and near living areas making the life miserable. Eco-friendly & Scientific Idea of Disposal of Non-biodegradable Waste: We thought to segregate the waste into ?Bio-degradable" and ?Non-biodegradable" so that the Biodegradable waste could be sent to Compost pits and Bio-gas Plants and the Non-Biodegradable could be co-incinerated along with coal in Cement Production. Loss of Calorific Value(energy) of plastic is conserved in this, as Plastic's Calorific value also contributes along with coal in Cement Making process and this is totally pollution free method as the toxics such as dioxins loose there existence at this temperature. This method is far better than normal incineration as it does not requires extra energy to burn plastic and also energy stored in plastic is utilized. Using Plastic and other Non-biodegradable waste also minimizes the use of Coal. Support came from industries, Village Councils, Municipality & Collectorate: We went to Officials for taking their help and some of them supported us Eg- Vikram Cement helped in distributing and installing dustbins, Village Council helped us in arranging awareness campaigns and Educational Programmes for villagers. Also we had talked to District Collector and Municpality Head of our area and told them about our plans which impressed them and we were also felicitated on Republic day by the District Collector and S.P. We interacted with many village heads and explained them our ideas and they gave a positive response to it. So we have developed a proper waste segregation system there. PROJECT RESULTS- Everyone around us has started Segregating the Waste There's Great lengths of reduction in the usage of plastic/polythene in Locality Vikram Cement Plant has started using Plastic and other MSW waste for co-incineration Fuel made by us has been approved by experts and its samples are now sent for further testing at PCRA It?s ?DO OR DIE? situation! Just give it a thought that what will happen if Waste is left unchanged to let the Earth degrade at fullest of its capacities? It is the need of the hour to reuse the waste energy. From the above report we conclude that our area is now least affected by problems of energy crises and mismanagement of waste. We must never forget that we have inherited this earth from our upcoming generations and so to maintain the quality of these resources we all need to put our efforts as one small step of ours could bring changes. Therefore we request all of you to come together with us and help us to save our environment for both our posterity as well as our Mother Earth.
