On 29th April (Monday), 2013

The National Parliament House just revise the previous law passed in 2005 mentioning 50 BDT as fine making it 300 BDT.

The revised law also bans all kinds of direct & indirect advertisement tobaco industries rather abandoning them to publish 50% of cigarette cover must be used warning message to the smoker.

The new law also includes Gul & Zarda under tobaco product. The public place has also been clarified mentioning park, restaurants, cafe, campus, private organizations etc.
Tobacco kills 57,000 people while affecting more than 350,000 people with various ingredients in Bangladesh. About 43.3% adults are linked up to smoking & Bangladesh is the country where smoking product are cheapest one.

The main challenge of the law is implementation as .the authority is givien to only UNO & Health officer.

Inspite of serious pictorial warnings on the cigarette packs , smokers dont give up. Smoking not only spoils one's health but also the appearance , esteem , his respect in society. Smoking gives people who smoke an odor on their clothing and hair. The smoke also gives an odor to people around them. Taking a gamble on your life and everyone around you just to feel good for the moment is not worth it. Smoking is harmful to society as it not only affects the smoker but also those around him , so called passive smokers.

Most probably Law can not eradicate the evil from the society...it is the determination that counts...My father is the best example infront of me...he quit smoking after 20 years with great determination...thx for the report
