Eco-Dynamics Expedition

Before I start my report, I would like to first apologize for turning in my report for April a day late. For some reason, my computer broke and there weren?t any other computers around me yesterday. Thankfully, I got it fixed with my report file broken? So I hope everybody will understand the lesser quality compared to the other reports.

Although this event was more than a year ago, I decided to write about this expedition when I received my book about our team and the activities we did. Eco-Dynamics Expedition is a project to find and teach potential global leaders. It is sponsored by the Korean council of UNEP and KIA cars. Although the program keeps on changing little by little, the final goal is to go to Kenya and Tanzania in Africa to see, watch, feel, and learn as much as we can. Because of the numerous activities we did when we were at Africa, I will write all the events apart from the hike to Kilimanjaro in this report and the rest plus environmental issues concerning mountains such as Kilimanjaro.

The program is quite new, only being able to host two expeditions due to the lack of time. There have been some differences between the team that I was in and the other team, but I will focus on the things that our team did and felt. First of all, we went to the headquarters of UNEP in Kenya, Nairobi. I was amazed at the fact that all its energy was made by renewable technology such as solar panels, turbines rotated by the wind, etc.

The next thing that we did was try to neutralize all the carbon dioxide that we made by taking a plane from Korea all the way to Kenya. We planted 600trees, with the help of the local children at Kibera, a part of Kenya that is considered one of the biggest ?back alleys?. We were surprised by the environment that the children were living in: there were plastic bags, burnt furniture, and everything you could think of all mixed together right in the middle of the village. The only thing that was in good shape was the school. This was the place that we planted our trees with our local friends.

The most exciting part was when each team took a jeep into the Serengeti National Park to observe the wild animals that habitat there. In addition, we compared the change between the present and the past. One of the most chaotic features was that the spot where once a river flowed was all cracked up. The ground was dry with fissures everywhere. In this national park exists a crater named Ngorongoro crater. Thanks to the environmental advantage, the food chain in this enclosed environment is very limited, but is well balanced thanks to the prevention of any humans going into this area without permission. In here, there exists an interesting fact that because it is a crater, trees aren?t able to grow there. This makes a place where giraffes are impossible to live in.

Was your computer broken? Oh boy... Anyway great to hear that you got a new one.
It is a brilliant idea to balance carbon emission & tree planting.
    Thanks for the report :)
